The media reports public news and when Jack goes to court or get arrested, it's public news, how lottery winners spend their money legally is not unless they choose to make it so. Most lottery winners have to expose some of their personal business to the public when they accept their winnings, why would they want to expose it all for the rest of their lives? People might want to know but they don't have any rights to know.

Because the media knows what sells, People would rather hear about lottery winners that blow through their fortunes then responsible winners who happen to live normal lives. It's like the car crash that everyone turns around to see when it happens. Just look at Anna Nichole and all the media attention that she is drawing.

The media doesn't hear about people going about their normal daily routines. They hear about the unusual events and things that are newsworthy. If a jackpot winner does something that results in a police report the media will know about it, but even if it's Jack Whittaker the media doesn't know when they make a good financial decision, quietly donate money to a good cause, or fall in love with somebody who loves them and not their money. Tragedy, comedy and drama are all big sellers, but there... [ More ]
