It happens rarely with very large jackpots that the probability for a rollover falls below 50%. We may see such a jackpot now, if more than 122M tickets are sold - and I think that this will be the case.

However the single most probable number of winners if there is a winner will still be one.

Here is the probability distribution for numbers of winners if sales were one quarter of a billion dollars:

Besides all the bad stuff for which he's become infamous, Jack also did a lot of good, including sharing a big chunk of his winnings. Whether it's an official pool or not, I expect that almost all jackpots of this size get split up a bit. What the entity that wins chooses to do with the money doesn't really count for much when we're looking at jackpot records. It would thus seem that the largest single winner of a prize - since the larger prizes were all won by pools - would be Jack Whittaker.

Of course, Jack was no winner.

OK, I'll take your word for it! It struck me as similar, but if you say it's your own, then it is! My original comment about TABLES (which was the point of my reply) was that you are somehow expecting a proportional font to line up. It won't -- here or anywhere. The only place something like that would line up is in something like Notepad, which uses a fixed-space font. When I started this I had 20 most of which I had to get the cash amount by Googling for newspaper articles from just after the win. Since everyone on the list choosed the cash amount it was fairly easy. My earlier lists included a CA superlotto win that I could never find a good cash amount for. Later I pared it down to 15. Well, I did not go through every line to be sure you had not changed anything, so I do not doubt what you are saying. I think it's pretty clear that it's from that Wikipedia listing, right? It's not a big deal, I was just identifying the source.

Wikipedia, at least on the lottery page, appears to be edited by someone in the UK who insists on rejecting all changes made that have the slightest US-tilt. It's pretty annoying, so I gave up trying to make changes long ago on it.

I have been doing cash jackpots for several times now and just update my last page and correct for errors. This is version 4 or 5 for me now so the only copy would be if someone copied my work and stuck it on wikipedia.

I really don't like that page, which seems to be hijacked by someone in the UK who is insistant upon documenting things in a non-US friendly way.

There is an easy way to correct any table.

It's called use a table in the first place .

You just posted a bunch of text separated by spaces. It's probably copied and pasted directly from some other web site. You can't possibly expect the style information from some other site to somehow be automatically re-forumlated by Lottery Post.

If you want something to look good in your posts, you need to create it using the Lottery Post text editor, do not just copy and paste.

Powerball should not be able to hold the title of the highest jackpot in US lottery history . The comparison between different jackpots should always be made according to the cash value. Tomorrow, Powerball will offer their annuity paid out in 40 years and will have a record jackpot of $500 million. Would that really be the highest jackpot of all time?

P.S. Their $340 million jackpot barely made the top 10.

No easy way to correctly format this table. Current Mega drawing not on the list.

Euromillions would have been much higher on the Nov 17th roll but they have a rolldown rule so only the second prize winners won by sharing the jackpot. The ammount in brackets is the Euro ammount for the prize.

All prizes are sorted by cash amount not inflated annuities which varies wildly based on game rules and inflation.
