Thanks for the link, guess like I didn't search back far enough. Looks like most people agree it's worth it to play the Power Play. I was thinking somebody would come up with a reason it's a sucker's bet.

I always buy Power Play. My reasoning is similar to yours...I would LOVE to win the jackpot, but realistically I'm much more likely to win a 4+1 or 5+0 prize, in addition to the smaller prizes. Since I usually play only one ticket, it's just an extra dollar for me.

I can see how this could be prohibitive if you're playing 200 combinations to win the jackpot and now have to spend $400.

Just wondering what people think about paying for the Power Play?

I started thinking about it, and I'm more likely to match 5 than hit the big one. And if I have a regular ticket, match 5 is about $140k after taxes. If I spend the extra buck for the Power Play, the minimum I'll have is $280k after taxes. I decided that the impact the difference between the two would make on my lifestyle, even if the multiplier is only 2, would be pretty big and that it's worth it to spend an extra $104 p... [ More ]
