there have been times i hesitated wondering if i was about to make myself look goofy saying something fluffy to a fellow member not knowing sure if they were male or female.i definitely wouldn't give a male member a shoulder to cry on lol

All in good fun, I am a female. In reality,I think there's probably more men here then females. Usually just by the name I can take a good guess. Like chippie,for example,right away I thought you were a woman. But sometimes you never know and this is a good thread to bring up. It bothered me in the beginning when I first came on here but now,if folks start talking to you on a regular basis,you can usually weed out the guys from the gals. I was thinking for those who dont want there gender (sex) known they wont have it on thier profile, to avoid any confusion so if its in the profile it will show up as a male or female symbol to the left, so everything stays on one page and we dont have to divert.

So to find out if the person is a male or female all we would have to do is take a quick look to the left, where there will either be a male or female symbol.

The internet being the internet, I don't think revealing gender is a good idea, unless it's optional.

Women who are using unisex usernames may very well be doing that intentionally, or have had an experience that has taught them to use such a name.

Gender has never mattered to me when I'm discussion lotteries but some posters assume you know which lottery they are talking about when they refer to their state lottery and their profile list their location as USA.

Chippie, I once requested that. I'm not sure if it was I or another LP member who started a poll, but there was a poll last year asking people what information they'd like to see. Gender and location were 2 popular choices.

I assume you're asking people to update their profiles with their gender? They would do that in the Options menu above (in Edit your Profile ).

If people were to just post that info in a thread, it would get buried, whereas changing your profile stays with you always.
