I would give the feature the following test.

1. Does the feature improve the user's visit?

2. Does the feature fix a problem with the site?

3. Will the feature become annoying over time?

4. Does the feature detract from the site, longer load time, etc?

When I made my state site results image map I switched Va and WV so no one would steal it, they stole it anyway. BobP

That's something I think about a lot, which is why I tend to be tight-lipped about these things. It's bad enough when a certain strategies site monitors Lottery Post and copies everything I do, but to have someone take an idea I leaked and then release it like their own idea would be much worse.

Just keep in mind that on a few occasions, for each eh, no biggie you hear, there may be 10 Oh Cool Beans that you might not hear.

I don't know, perhaps it's human nature to complain about what we don't like and yet we forget to mention all the things we do like. Kinda like M M's, most folks like em, but how many do you hear about singing the praises of em

I would say "Go For It". Obviously, you've put a great deal of thought into it and you also mention "it's rare". So I'm thinking in terms of inventions, if you've thought of it, and don't act on it, someone else may beat you to it. Then the other guy gets the credit.

I'm kinda on the fence about whether I should put this new feature I created out there or not.

It is wickedly cool, but it's not a lottery feature as much as it is a really cool web feature .

I have developed something that I know is very rare. I got the idea from a popular web site, but I have never seen a forum site do this kind of thing.

It's the kind of thing that is a nice to have, rather than something that really boosts productivity on the site, so I'm thinking maybe I should... [ More ]
