Rule number 1 for spam is to never reply. All it does is prove that your address is valid and that you're reading the spam they send you. Even if they don't suck you into a scam they'll add your name to the adress lists that get sold.

Sending spam is dirt cheap, but not so cheap that it can be done for free. It will never happen, of course, but if everybody could manage to go a couple of months without replying to spam it would dissapear.

I just watched dateline, and this thread was about the first thing I thought of. I only caught the end, but some poor schmuck was in a chat room and got suckered into thinking he'd met some beautiful woman who actually fell in love with him. He spent 30 to 40 grand of his own money to collect and reship merchandise that was bought with stolen credit cards by the people scamming him.

Ironically I just got another one today. What is even more frightening is that my friend actually believed this scam about a year ago, and he was actually getting plane tickets to fly to Africa to pick up his $10 million. All he had to do was send them a $2,000 processing fee first. He was gullible enough that he almost did it, until I asked him why on earth would you have to pay $2,000 to get $10 million when it could be easily paid, or deducted out of the winnings.

I know dude...people here have obviously been through this already. I'm not gullible but leave room for improvement nonetheless...I wanna thank everyone who gave me the heads up on this. I'm not too savvy in this area and wanted to get the many perspectives to make a decision.

Bro, this is a PHISHING attempt. When you contact them I am sure they will start to ask you all sorts of personal info like your SSN, a bank account number to deposit the money, a few credit card numbers to validate your identity, your name, birthday, and address. Then they will say your money will be deposited into said account in x amount of time. You never hear from them again. Now they have ALL your personal info and you have nothing but the feeling of being jerked.

I knew a friend back in the Navy days who would enter into as many sweepstakes as possible. He did win big twice. He won 10 grand at one time and a couple of years later won a new motorcycle.

His advice to me was..If I wanted to win more often, I would have to follow all the rules of the sweepstakes to the T .
