My question is WHY? The same goes for those who say they won't play if the jackpot is less than say $50 million AND they could afford to play every draw. There have been times in the past where I purchased $50 worth of QPs for a then record Big Game drawing only to win a few bucks. That result would not have been any different had I purchased those QPs as a part of a lottery pool. I think most LP members would be happy to participate in lottery pool with other members if someone else would picked up the cost. After all many members post numbers for other to play everyday.

I suggest anyone interesting in starting such a pool post the rules, the limitations, the game and cover the cost themselves. Maybe offer a small share of the winnings (maybe $2) to each participants if the pool win a jackpot or second prize, anything less they keep it all for themselves. The part... [ More ]

Well, given the fact that quite a few have been won lately with office pools (St. Louis, Arizona, Nebraska, Wisconsin, to name a few) evidentily there must be SOME good to being in an 'office pool'.....

The keyword is 'can', just as not being anonymous 'can' be a problem, but it doesn't have to be.

I would not object to joining a pool of like-minded players but I would not join a pool just to be joining a pool.

I would be cognizant of the many pitfalls inherent in a pool and would not join if any and all possible objections were not addressed.

There have been many instances of this sort of thing going to court after a major win. I would not want to be a part of that.

So if the legal system can be avoided (as if that were possible!!) then count me in.

i only get in a lottery pool when the pot is at 200 million or above and only pools with 10 people or less.

I say, any lottery pool of any kind (friends, family or co-workers) can't be a good pool! As everyone here knows, a jackpot (of any size) can and will bring out the worst in someone in that pool!

I took the question in the literal sense, so responded accordingly. Yes, given the chance to have three other members that I trusted from the forums in a lottery pool, Id be honored to share the winnings.

The problem as it appears is people take it and go hog wild with the simple poll. Its either you would or you wouldnt. That simple. No harm no foul in how one responds.

thanks for the answers.a lot of times i do these polls is to gauge how others would do.it doesn't mean that i would or wouldn't do something but most of the time i'm interested in others perceieve these things.a lot of times i might do something and then see a certain answer it could change my mind.after thinking about it more i'd rather just buy my own ticket and take it all for myself instead of maybe having trouble in a pool if someone gets disgruntled down the line....

What would be the advantage of joining a lottery pool with a bunch of strangers that have a LP membership that you have never seen compared with joining a lottery pool of friends, family and co-workers that you see every week or so? LP members come and go and change their names all the time, I wouldn't even join a local pool if I only knew the members by their INTERNET or CB handle unless I was handling all the money myself.

In theory it sounds great. We are one big, happy family, right? On the other hand, this is the internet! That's why not. Have you even met one of the other members here?

I also agree with OldSchoolPa. I realize that spending more money on tickets increases your chance of winning, but I'm not sure it's worth the aggravation. The thought of people here pooling together and winning a PB or MM jackpot is a nice thought, but that's about as far as it goes.

OldSchoolPa brought up some excellent points, especially the second or third tier prize.

Lets' take the money and wait for the next big jackpot and really go for it.

No, I want my share of the prize.

And what can a lottery pool of 10 - 20 people do with a third or second tier prize...agonize like that Minnesota pool that billed itself 1 Away From Retirement ?!!! A single winner can make good use of $200K/$250K (minus taxes), but anything less than $10K is nice chump change.

My reply would not just be, NO! , but h#*$ NOOOO!!! I just don't think that lottery pools make sense. First, looking down the roster of jackpot winners, it looks like more INDIVIDUALS win than do lottery pools. Second, when you have a winning pool that makes each persons take less than $5M, it makes winning just a really nice experience rather than a life changing experience (those 100 Wisconsin players only pocketed less than a million each...I see why many of them opted to continue working...
