When I signed on this morning, I saw the poll and posted. I didn't realize this was an old thread. I should be more careful and read all of the comments before I write anything.

What hasn't changed? If you asked me the same thing about Aruba, I could tell you about my trips to that island in 1975 (honeymoon) in 1978 and then in 1992. You're right,JustX,you probably wouldn't recognize it anymore with the way it's grown. It seems they are building a new casino there every week,judging from my Casino Player magazine! Just a few years ago a cousin of mine was going to move there because housing was pretty reasonable but not anymore! It's a hot spot in more ways then one

I haven't been to Vegas in over 20 years! I stayed at the Dunes in 1976 and the MGM Grand in 1978 or 79. (estimated dates) My last stay was at the Tropicana in the early 80s.

I really enjoyed Vegas back then, but I was in my 20s. The first time my ex and I made a deal not to go to bed (well, to sleep that is!) for the 4 days. Of course we passed out eventually! I went in April of 2000. I stayed at the Monte Carlo resort and casino. I played some slots but lost. I caught Lance Burton's magic show and ate at the restaurants in the casino. I went for the weekend so I did not get to see alot in the time that I had to stay. I would like to go back and spend more time to actually get to see the different casinos and attractions that Las Vegas has to offer. I would recommend Las Vegas to anyone because their is so many things to do there.-weshar75

Vegas can in some ways be compared to New York CIty, it has its high class and talented areas, its off the beaten path areas, and places you dont go even in the daylight. Most *tourist* who go to vegas stay at the Strip , which is lined with overpowering lights and over done themes. Yet that IS what vegas is about! Going overboard to attract people.

For fun, do the mule rides at at Red Rock Canyon, or the Mouse Trap all day treasure hunt! Its a riot being sent into the dessrt with a map, two... [ More ]

Yeah,

I've seen the Dunes, The Sands, Frontier, Stardust and the old Tropicana go down over the last decade and their replacements are pretty, but the history is gone.....

Oh well, the only constant in our world is change.

One of my favorite movies is Casino with Robert Di Nero( sp ) and Sharon Stone...

At the end of the movie it shows the older casinos being imploded making way for the new corporate theme park type casinos and hotels...Robert Di Nero comments on it while waxing nostalgic....

I lived in Vegas from 1977-1993, when I got there it was about 80,000 population, when I left it was much larger than that. Prior to that Nevada had never been one million.

I worked in the El Cortez, Fremont, Union Plaza, California, Golden Nugget, and Palace Station. (Never made it to the Strip, some kind of record!)

It used to be it was nothing to go out, have a little fun, and line up three Bar Bar Bar's on a slot and win $100. That was then, now it's Mega payoffs for one big winner a... [ More ]

I've been to most of the older Casinos:

Arizona Charlies( excellent for video poker as well as a fabulous steak and eggs breakfast ), Binions Horseshoe, Golden Nugget, Sahara, Frontier, The Sands, The Dunes, Las Vegas Hilton.....

I did like them...especially the Sands. The Sands was imploded to build the Venetian- The Sands was very nostalgic- it had pics of the original Rat Pack hanging on the walls....Sammy....Dean....Joey....Frank....

My Husband and I were there in 2001. We took a cross country trip because it was a dream of mine to do. (although I wanted to travel by motorcycle)

We stayed at the Excaliber. WE HAD A BALL !!

We enjoyed it so much that we stayed an extra day and night and didn't want to go then.

We plan to go back again.

Didn't win any money, but we really had alot of fun.

Hey there,DoubleDown! It's nice to hear some positive feedback about Vegas. Have you ever hit any of the local casinos? I hear those have better payouts. And I probably wouldn't make it to see a show either,haha. You couldn't drag me out of the casino

LL, I have been to Vegas probably 15-20 times over the last 20 years.

I LOVE everything about it.

I only paid for the room and meals for the first trip or two- then started getting comped and have not pulled money out of pocket since.

Love the slots and of course, blackjack...

Never ( embarrassed ) been to a single show. Cannot get out of the Casino long enough to do it.

Caesars is my and my wife's fave for the atmosphere, but we generally don't win much there- Ballys and MGM seem... [ More ]

I LOVE VEGAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We go 2-3 times a year, We stay at Paris and are always comped a room and most food because we use a players card. We love to play craps because your money lasts alot longer then slots, but we play high limits slots (5.00) and i won 4000.00 last year on them so that was great. We go to shows, if you get the chance go see KA it is playing at the MGM, AWESOME!! We saw Blue man Group, but guess I am getting older, because it was way too loud for us, we also play bingo w... One of these days I'll make it there but just curious to hear of some of your experiences in the desert! My sis and mother went last year and weren't too impressed but I'll just have to see for myself!
