Talking about some serious money:

$100 x 7 = $700/wk

$700 x 365 = $36,400/yr

Talk to the folks at Gamblers Anonymous to educate yourself as to what kind of help is available for people with a gambling problem.

There is no stealing going on, nor is there borrowing.

It's coming right out of the atm.

I will plan to sit down and have a little discussion with the person and see if I can make them rationalize the folly of trying too hard' to win.

$100 a day for instant lottery games? Either this person is too rich for their own good or they are borrowing and stealing money from their friends and family. If it's the latter then it's time their friends and family showed some tough love and stopped supporting their addiction.

It's difficult to say, DoubleDown, because it really depends on your relationship. If the person has a gambling problem, meaning it is having a devastating effect on his/her life, then counseling is needed. However, an intervention doesn't work unless someone has a desire to stop whatever he/she is addicted to like drinking, drugs or gambling. Sometimes a person will stop for a short time, but a commitment to change is always the key to any bad habit.

What would you do if you knew someone that is spending $100 per day on instant games ?

It is insane to do so, and this person keeps making excuses and giving deadlines to cut back but has not.

By the way, the amount of wins are basically nothing... so indeed it is throwing the money away.
