If you mark the str/bx section on the slip, with lets say 745, and the drawing comes out as 745, you win about 290 for the straight, and about 40 for the box.

If the number comes in as 457, you'll only win the box part, about 40, or more if it was a double.

Since the st/bx selection allows you to only play a dollar towards both st, and box, you're actually only spending 50 cents for each. And that's why you only get paid half. I'd recommend playing the number seperately for a dollar each,... [ More ]

hello and thank you in advance for your quick reply. so one more question what about the part on the slip that says straight/box. if you mark that, in what order can your numbers come out. That is where i am kind of mixed up.

I forgot...the staright/box means best of both worlds, but half of the payoff, I mentioned above.

So, If I mark the st/bx and play 745, I'll win about 250 for the staright and about 40 for the box, so about 290 or so.

If you mark straight on your betslip, and the numbers you chose come out in the order you marked on the slip, you'll win about 500 bucks. CA is a pari-mutuel state, which means the top prize for the pick 3 fluctuates depending on how many people win. Most states have a fixed payout of 500 bucks.

If you mark the box option, and your numbers come in as any order 745,754,547,574,457,475, you'll win about 80 bucks. Doubles are a little more than 80 bucks, maybe around 150 bucks.

i dont understand the striaght box part of this game. Todays winning number is 745. can someone explain the stright box part of it. I dont get it?

how embarrasing i have looked at the instructions on the cali web page, but i still dont get the box part of it. what does it mean? that you can mix up the numbers or what?

any help....
