What I am saying here, is that you hire a Out-of-state Front Company. The front company goes in, and says to the officials,

1. We claim this ticket in the name of XYZ corp, of Outta state, LLC

2. XYZ corp is the winner, and sole owner of said ticket.

(All the while, You control secretly XYZ corp.)

3. We (being the company) purchased said ticket at this establishment, through a TEMP individual that we asked not to reveal his name to us, to insulate said TEMP from US

In response to your post. Common sense prevails here. In the state of Oregon the release of your full name and the place were you bought the winning ticket is released to the public. You will be initially taxed 25% federally and 8% for the state of Oregon on Megabucks or Powerball prizes in excess of $600. You don't need to WIN a lawsuit to get your message across. The state never warned players of the negative attention they would have thrust upon them either... feel free to check out www.palottery.com for such a warning...

You are better off meeting the press and getting it over with.

All they are going to do is ask you what you are going to do with the money, so you give 'standard' replies: Go on a long vacation, pay off my siblings mortgages, give a bunch to charity, quit your job, etc. But what you REALLY do with it nobody has to know, so don't tell 'em.

You can sue the state all you want, let me know when you do that so I can LMAO, you will lose.

I would not waste time deliberating, the ticket would be signed INSTANTLY!

If I win, I will refuse the press conference (you CAN do that), only use my name on the ticket (not drag the mrs. into it), and refuse any and all press-related questions... being met by the barrel of a pair of Glocks should dissuade curiosity seekers, and the first time I would get bugged by solicitations, I will sue the state for creating the situation in the first place...

The most important things to do after winning a jackpot are to get good professional advice, be discreet, and learn to say no when necessary.

Just let me add to that, if you have a problem member in your family, be sure to make it very clear that your attorney has already drawn up an airtight will that gives your money to charity or to someone besides the problem member so they won't be tempted to off you to get their hands on what they perceive to be their share.

Regardless of how you choose to do it, it's always possible to have somebody else's name released to the public if you win a lottery jackpot. The earliest example I'm aware of was the group of machinists who won nearly 300 million (annuity) in '98 who had a lawyer represent them. I've always been curious how much he charged for his services. How much would you want to have your name released for all the crackpots you're worried about to call up with their requests and sob stories?

I see you have been a member for a while. Like someone else said this topic has been beat to death on here. First thing you do is secure the ticket and then call your attorney. Have him claim it in a trust for you, if your state says you can't claim it in a trust. Hold of cashing the ticket get your lawyer to help you secure a safe location be it a house in the country or a secure floor of a major hotel. First and foremost, the money belongs to whoever has the winning ticket. It is their money. If they choose to give it all away to the Home for Homeless Cats, that's their business. You wouldn't have to do all that. There isn't an attorney in this country that wouldn't take yo as a client if all you did was show him a Xerox copy of the front and back f the ticket. He/she would be more than happy to wait until the ticket was cashed to be paid. Attorneys aren't starving for money.

However, the first thing I would figure to do if you aren't cashing it right away (after mmaking a copy at Kinko's <LOL> is to rent a safety deposit box at your bank, and put the ticket there.... [ More ]

They'll see the new house, new car, and all the new expensive stuff you're buying and they know that something like that doesn't happen within such a short period of time unless you've acuired a large sum of money, whether it be by the lottery, inheritance, etc. They don't care how you got the money, just that you got it. If I only had 47 cents in the bank, I'd do whatever I was gonna do if I hadn't won the lottery. I'd still take the necessary steps to remain anonymous, if that's even possible here. It's so important to me, I'd prefer to be homeless and live in my car for a couple months till things can get squared away. I'd sell everything I have on craigslist or somewhere to get money for an attorney. It can all be replaced (with better stuff!) when that ticket is finally cashed.... [ More ]

Viceroy...regarding your plan to have a corporation claim the winning jackpot ticket, this is a situation that varies from state to state. Each lottery has their own rules for claiming a jackpot.

As I live in California, those are the policies that are the most familiar to me. Outlined below is the policy for California taken directly from the regulations of the California Lottery as posted on their web site.

Select SEARCH, then type in whatever you feel: financial advice, taxes, accountants, lawyers, etc...

and believe me Viceroy, you will have plenty of advice to pore over...
