More inept clerks at 7-11.

Earlier today I went into a 7-11 to get my free QP from a Fantasy five game win from last night's draw and handed the ticket, along with my betslips. He came back after a long period of time and said that because of the heavy clouds and downpour, the terminal was not responding.

I took my ticket and my betslip. A few hours later, on my way home, I stopped in at the liquor store to get my free QP, and the girl told me that the ticket was already run through the ma... [ More ]

Expired, or about to expire, tickets are all handled by the store's Lottery Rep. The Lottery has reps for all the stores and they will pull the old tickets on or before the "end-of-game" dates (these are actually the end of sale dates). There is an additional time limit after the "end-of-game" dates to cash the tickets in. It is their responsibility to make sure no tickets are sold after the official "end of game" dates. These dates are usually printed in local newspaper ads the Lottery does (at... [ More ]

Did you hear the ticket print after he ran the playslip the first time? If you don't care of the situation right there on the spot, there really isn't much you can do. Reporting them to the lottery office wouldn't be a good idea now because you don't know for a fact that the clerk legitimately reran the playslip, which could have been the case. I'm not saying he did or didn't rip you off, but if you feel like the clerk's up to no good, then speak up right then.... [ More ]

Thanks for the information - and you're right - they should have been reported. I bought about seven 'Magic 3's' tickets, which I still have.

I checked on the New York State Lottery's Instant ticket End of Schedule board, and the last date to cash in those tickets was in January 2007. I purchased the tickets a few months ago, probably around March or April. How could they still have had those tickets for sale if the last date to cash them in was in January?

Some store owners really do ri... [ More ]

That's an interesting subject. I was wondering what happens to the expired instant game tickets. I assumed the retailer had to return them to the Lottery once they were no longer available for sale.

In fact, that's the only thing that makes any sense, since they could otherwise just go through all the piles and scratch them off to see if they were winners on the final days, right? So that's why I thought all tickets had to be accounted for by the stores. There's no way he would have known... [ More ]

I'm reminded of the time when I purchased a few scratch off tickets, and won about $10.00 - when I returned to the same store to collect, they would not pay me. Apparently, the tickets were old and should not have been sold in the first place. They said I had to call the lottery office to get reimbursed. I asked them why they were selling old tickets and they couldn't give me a straight answer! What a rip-off

It is possible. You may want to contact the lottery office and express your concern about this possibility. If the clerk re-ran the play card a second time (keeping the first one if it was an EZ Match winner), they can track that, especially if you still have the original ticket.

It could also be the clerk was unfamiliar with the machine or the machine was down temporarily.

Lottery officials are interested in possible cases of shady retailers and they can take action if necessary.

I gave a new clerk i'd never seen a generic QP w/EZ match card marked for 10 tickets and handed the card and a $20 bill to him . It was a side register and I could not see behind the high partician. I saw him load the card, then look down like something was wrong , seemed he took WAyyyy too long ...time passed as he kept looking down , then he loaded the card again , waited got the tickets, came over and handed them to me .... [ More ]
