Hi BevsPicks,

I've investigated VLookup a little further. I'm pretty sure it will work for you. You can find it in the Insert pull-down menu under function. Then key in the word VLookup as the function you want, click on it and click OK. You then have to provide parameters. The first is the value you are looking for. If you click on the little box to the right where it asks for this parameter you can then click on a cell you will use to type in the value you are looking for. For exam... [ More ]

The trick is to write the question in such a way as you could understand the answer.

The code for the input and outputs are column specific.

If you make a little chart (column labels, row and column headers, first few rows of data), your response rate may improve.

Also, the amount of output will vary because some numbers repeat more than others, so you have to specify how you would want to handle that. It can be done in Excel but Access may be better suited for this task.

LOL Hypersoniq...the funny thing is this:

Yesterday morning I did exactly that! Then I had to copy the values of the cells into another column so that when I sort the numbers in ascending order I can see a clear before and after picture. I am going to research the VLookup function today. Maybe that function will allow me to elminate the copying of values. Because you know that once you sort the column the above and below value changes.

I have a simple solution

put the previous draw and the next draw on the same row.

for example (if you were using a single combo column)

column 3= the combo, column 4= the previous combo, column 5= the next combo

the combo, if in C3 is in column 3, D3=C2, E3=C4

this way when you filter 1 combo, the previous and next draw also appear in the filtered result...

maybe this could be modified to do what you want

Hi BevsPicks,

Sorry you haven't gotten much response. I think your application might be more a database application and you could try Access. However, in Excel, although I haven't used either function, I think you may be able to do what you want using VLookup and Offsett. You'll have to research those two functions. As I understand it VLookup stands for vertical and would apply to a column of numbers. I believe you lookup some value and based on that access a cell in another column. It... [ More ]

Hello Smart Folks!

I need a solution. Here's the scenario.

I have been collecting Pick 3 data for a state.

My basic columns are:

1. Date the number fell

2. Day the number fell

3. Each number in it's own column in the order in which it fell

4. The number in ascending order (ie, 321 fell. The order column lists it as 123.)

5.
