The $9.40 show payoff paid Jack $282 for a total bet of $240. Not great, but still a little profit.

I should clarify that my bets are betting units. I'm not betting on the race; these are hypothetical bets based on a $2 minimum wager for the sole purpose of determining profit/loss ratio using a standard scale. For example if I was betting $100 on the race, the bets would be $44-$28-$28.
