I hope it's not true, cuz I wouldn't be able to tell them. I can't even remember which day I bought a ticket let alone the time! I might be able to tell them where it was purchased if I only got 1 QP for that drawing, but if I got more than one there's no way I'd remember which ticket came from where.

Someone told me, that they just don't take your word on wheather its your ticket or not, they want to know where you bought the ticket and the time.

I don't know if this is true or not.

Also, its only on big jackpots.

I would NOT sign the ticket, as I would want my attorney to claim it for a trust. And since I have gifted ownership of a portion of the ticket to 18 relatives, it would need to be the trustee's signature, not mine. Besides, there is no way I would lose that ticket. As soon as I discovered I won, I'd scan it on my home scanner, then make a beeline for my bank safe deposit box to keep the ticket until I needed it for my appointment with my attorney.

I believe if you lose your winning ticket without a signature anyone who finds it can claim it. But if you signed it you still have claim to that ticket should anyone try to cash in on it.

The ticket is a bearer instrument. There is no need to sign it right away. The lottery commision will recognize the bearer of the ticket no matter who presents it. Your signature is a formality that will count little if you lose the ticket then try to file a claim against the person who finds the ticket and claims it. Do your homework concerning the trust, then have your attorney handle things when you win.

i am way too paranoid about losing my ticket not to sign it right away. when i hear about unclaimed jackpots i think the person threw it away by accident or lost the ticket but i try to sign my tickets when i get home or at the store.

I was told to have the attorney sign it in his name and put the money in his bank account, and then get a loan from the attorney.

I would definitely use a trust too if that day ever comes but was always curious if me signing it will cause an issue with the trust.

crossing my fingers, toes, hair, arms, etc...for tomorrow's mega millions. lol

An unsigned ticket is anybody's ticket...

I plan on using a trust (if that day ever comes), but I will sign the ticket with my name. (signing above it with the name of the trust and making sure I am identified as a trustee ). I won't write the trusts name until AFTER I call the lottery HQ to find out the procedures... but I will sign the ticket with my name immediately!

I debated using a lawyer to claim, but I never met one that seemed trustworthy...

Hi All,

If you held the winning ticket to a multi-million dollar lottery - say $200m+. Would you sign the ticket right away? If you did sign it and decide that having a trust account claim the winnings instead - would your signature cause any issues for the trust account to claim it
