Some of the state sites say it's a spinwheel with four of each number. Other sites don't mention exactly how the number is chosen. Is a video of the drawings online?

I should mention that on occasion they add an X10 in there, so don't take all this as chisled in stone.

I think they put 16 balls into the multiplier machine, 4 of each number. 4 : 16 = 1 : 4.

No, I knew as soon as I logged off I screwed up - the Powerplay numbers are 2 to 5, not 1 to 5.

I KNOW I read where the number of available Powerplay numbers is not equal - I read it about a year ago, but can't find it now, maybe it has changed.

Unless you KNOW you are going to win why spend $1? Good question but when you gamble, you take a risk. By the way all powerplay number are 2-5, you make be confusing Powerplay with the Texas MegaMillions multiplier, they were putting extra 3's and 4's in their drawings to get more players to spend the extra dollar.

Unless you KNOW you are going to win, why spend $1 on a chance to double your money when you can spend that extra $1 on another set of numbers ? We've been down this road a zillion times.

Also, as far as Powerplay itself goes, I was looking for the chart, but I can't find it: I don't think it's equal - ie there are more 1x chances than there are 5x chances, but I could be wrong..

Try actually thinking about it and maybe you'll figure it out. If you knew that the powerplay was going to be 2 it would very definitely be stupid to spend the extra buck on powerplay.

Well I usually don't buy PowerPlay if I buy a PowerBall ticket because if I decide to play PowerBall, I'll only buy $1 or $2. Reason being that I also spend $5 on Hoosier Lotto and don't want to spend too much. I try to keep control on how much I spend on the lottery. I switched to Pick 6 because I can apply my system to all the numbers within the set. I used it on PowerBall for a while, and it did help some, but Pick 6 is 12 times easier to win, not to mention I found a whole lot more new stuff... [ More ]

That's exactly what I based my decision on. If I match 5 white balls without the powerplay I'd get around $130K after taxes. If I match 5 with the powerplay, the minimum I'd take home is $260K. The difference between those two amounts is the difference between being able to pay cash for a dump or paying cash for a decent home in this area. That's what I'm saying. If someone is playing PowerPlay, they have decided to play knowing the it could be 2, 3, 4, or 5 times and they are willing to spend the extra $1 even if it ends up being 2.

It's the easiest of all the numbers to predict because there are less of them, the problem is you can't play the number.

Not directly, but I won't say no .

More like whatever powerplay number came up last drawing, has a 1 in 4 chance of repeating and a 3 in 4 chance of not repeating in the next draw. Someone interested enough might dig around and find a pattern or 2 in the string of numbers.

Well first, the PowerPlay number is 1 number from its own separate pool of numbers. Second, I have said to people that a person could potentially cut their odds of a Pick 5 game down to less than Pick 4 game odds. Reason? Well because all the numbers drawn for a Pick 5 game all come from the same pool(for example, 1-36). In a Pick 4 game, all 4 numbers are chosen from a separate 0-9 pool. I disagree. The only thing I think someone needs to concern themself as far as PowerPlay goes is simply whether or not they want to play, that's all. There is no way to tell what the next PowerPlay number will be so whether it be 2, 3, 4, or 5 the person needs to decide if they want to spend an extra $1. What matters is how confident they feel in the other numbers.

but if you feel strongly about getting a hit, then why wouldn't you put in that extra buck on a chance to at least double your prize?

unless you want to predict a powerplay of 5 and play all the powerballs....still a losing proposition I believe
