Well, since you asked so nicely!!

vtracs are another way of breaking the 10 digits down to 5... Two digits are assigned to one vtrac #. There are five vtrac numbers..

0 ,5 = vtrac 1

1, 6 = vtrac 2

2, 7 = vtrac 3

3, 8 = vtrac 4

4, 9 = vtrac 5

So you see the number that fell today in NY, 973 (vtrac 534), has the same vtrac as 978..
