Yes. Providing that bank of your choice is here in the USA. Just bring a proper ID or two.

If the bank of your choice is outside the USA, than you will need to comply with stringent government regulations.

As you may know, Governments need to track large monies changing hands.

The problem is that California lottery doesn't do direct deposit. They usually give the check to the winner and escort them to a nearest bank.

I agree with csfb. However, the best advice I can give you is to contact an attorney who specializes in immigration and naturalization law. Just make sure he's really an attorney and not trying to rip you off because you won the lottery.

Not true. Acquiring US citizenship is a long process.

First, become a permanent resident alien (green card holder).

If you got your green card through marriage to a US citizen, you have to wait 3 years from the date of your green card before you can file your application for citizenship.

If you got your green card through other ways, you wait 5 years from date of your green card.

After the application is filed, wait for a response from immigration.

Please don't misunderstand my post. I didn't know it was a personal question. There is a green card lottery however, so I just thought that might be what you heard regarding citizenship. My comment wasn't meant to be judgmental. I was thinking of this:

I forgot about the army option.

The programs, of course, vary by nation. If you visit a countries immigration web site, some of them even have a quiz you can take to see if you have what they are looking for at the moment. And there's any number of sites devoted to the do's, don'ts, loopholes (gotta have those) of the process

Although, it's looking like, if we wait long enough, we'll all be part of the same country whether we like it or not.

There's a few more. Foreigners that join the U.S. military and do a combat tour (or maybe even just a hitch) can become citizens if they want to.

Israel, Irealnd, and Italy all have programs where anyone proving ethnic ties can go there and become a citizen or dual citizen.

Most of the developed nations have multiple tracks to citizenship or residency.

I didn't think that was the question, Guesser. I thought the question was if winning the lottery would expedite a person's legal status for US Citizenship. Being a popular tourist spot, FL has had a few winners from other countries. Their rules state that if a person does not have a U.S. social security card, 30% will automatically be deducted for federal income tax. We have no state income tax or it would probably be more. I'm not sure if that's an IRS rule, but I'm guessing it is.... [ More ]

I heard about a story of a lottery winner who requested a citizenship right after his jackpot winning. And he got it right away. Will the US government give a citizenship to people with some extraordinary situations like that? Have you guys heard of such kind of stories
