You have to feel sorry for the person who threw it away. Overlooking something like this has happened to me. (not this extreme I hope) But even to the most avid players it can happen. Oh well... I guess the law of Finders Keepers applies in full force to this situation. Congrats to your nephew

What probably happened was...

Someone was scratching their ticket while pumping their gas.. When they saw what it was going to cost them after a fill up, they got sick and threw the ticket away and ran to vomit... (price of gas, can make one sick) Even sick enough to over look a $1000 winner...

I do that sometimes I call it Road Kill Sometimes people don't completely scratch off the entire ticket. I have had some luck doing this in the past...
