Now that it's hitting our pocketbooks, we seem to care a lot about mileage.

Some of us certainly do, but from what I see on the roads I think most people are far more interested in complaining about the cost of gas than in saving on gas. It always amazes me to see the solo driver get out of an SUV that costs 40 or 50 grand and gets 15 mpg and then whine about how expensive gas is.

I'm not a tree hugger, but I do love trees - can't imagine living without them either. I also like clean beaches without trash and cigarette butts and I get upset when the only wildlife I see any more is human. I don't necessarily approve of a carbon tax, but we all need to be aware of our responsibilities when it comes to cleaning up our polluted environment. I think the tree-hugging do-gooders who are so in love with the tax man should pay all these taxes they want, and leave the rest of us alone. We didn't win WWII on pansy-@$$ carbon-credits. We built tanks, planes, etc. inside *gasp* factories. Then we took those tanks and planes and went overseas and greased the treads of those tanks with Gerry's guts!! Carbon tax on the lotto?

No offense, but what a ridiculous idea. Not that it matters, but I get my tickets whenever I go grocery shopping. My grocery store is .4 miles out of the way of the shortest path between the office and the house.

Now, if I win the lotto, then I am going to need to be carbon taxes for my fleet of Ferraris and Lambos.

If there was going to be a carbon tax on a product (doesn't matter whether it's lottery tickets, a loaf of bread, or a ton of dry ice), the tax should be based on the carbon footprint from manufacturing the product.

Were already overtaxed as it is. How about this if the states keep taxing us we should charge them a fee for purchasing lottery tickets and other things.

We already pay a carbon tax when we buy fuel.

Where did you come up with this silly poll.

I will never pay another cent more for lottery tickets then what they charge now. If however they increase the payouts or odds i might. But I'm not holding my breath for that to happen.

i live in nc and always drove to va to buy tickets. after nc got the lottery va tickets at the state dropped considerably. it was the same at the sc border. i remember waiting in line at a sc border for 2 hours when the powerball was over $300. other states still depend on that business. doing that would drive away good business and most of the time other purchases are made as well.

No! We're already paying a voluntary tax for schools and other government services just by buying the tickets. And, like others here, I almost always buy my lottery tickets when I'm out walking. On the rare occasion I drive, I stop at a lottery retailer on my way to other errands such as grocery shopping, and I'll bet the majority of other people do the same.

I know some people do drive to other states to buy lottery tickets, so maybe those should be carbon taxed as most are making the tr... [ More ]

No. I buy my tickets when I am out doing other buisness.

Autos have a hidden fuel consumtion tax already when you buy them new. Some vehicles are taxed in the thousands that you do not see on your vehicle purchase ticket.
