my family is moving to Mississippi next year and I told my father that I don't know if I could go with them because there is no lottery......It would be great if there was a lottery in mississippi. If they do ever get on I think the best multi state for them to go with would be Mega Millions since its surrounded by Powerball states......with the exception of Alabama but if Al ever gets a lottery I see them going with PB not MM

Louisiana has both casinos and a lottery. In some parishes, we also have video poker. Some say we have too much gambling here.

As long as MS doesn't have a lottery, ya'll have to come here if you want to play.

You're right about Miss. not having any type of lottery - scratch games or otherwise.

It's a crying shame, because having spent a lot of time in Mississippi myself, I know the folks there would really enjoy a lottery.

I know the casinos wield a lot of power, but I'm really surprised the legislature doesn't come together and make it happen. A lottery would be greatly beneficial to the state. (And fun for the residents.

Mech2009..I live in Mississippi also..I am a good hour from the coast myself..and I was thinking we were #2 as far as Casinos are concerned second only to Las Vegas..maybe I am wrong...man it would be nice to have our own lottery..but I dont see that happening anytime soon..welcome to LP..

Nevada also has casinos and no lottery.

Casinos don't want the competition (when they can prevent it), they see lotteries as a threat.

A lot of the Midwestern and Mississipi casinos are owend by Nevada and Atlantic City corporations, picture a giant mechanical octupus reaching out from those two places with tentacles that go to different locations, and those tentacles are like the tubes at the drive - thru windows at a bank, collecting money and sending it to Vegas and A.C. There is no lottery in mississippi, or scratch offs.

But mississippi is the 3rd largest gambling state for casinos in America.

I live an hour away from 5 different casinos.

Ameristar, golden moon, the rainbow, silver star, and 2 more.

Someone explain the multiple reasons why so I can double check myself.
