Each scratch off game is already determined. Why would you want to play a game thats pre-determined ?!?! It's the very reason why we all want lotto games to have lotto balls instead of computerized drawings. Avoid the scratch offs..it's a losing cause... if your lucky enough to get a win, take the money and run! Stick with the lotto 3,4,5 and 6 number games that havent been pre-determined yet. Just my 2 cents .. Good Luck

The average pay back on a roll is $187.... Sad but true. Where does the $500 come in...

I think the odds are actually determined by the entire number of tickets completely, not on a particular roll of tickets... I've played entire rolls for $ 300 and often only won $ 150 to $ 190... However, there have been times that I've played an entire roll for $ 300 and ended up scratching $ 700 in winnings... People also like to use the word winning when they have actually lost money. The scheme that mech is proposing guarantees he will walk out the door of the retailer having lost his money. It doesn't matter how many tickets he has scratched. In the end, he loses what he originally spent.

You spend $150 and get back $77 (51%) - you are down $73

You spend that $77 you just won and get back another 51% which is about $39 - you are now down $73 plus $38 = $111 total you are down.

The returns dimish with each round you play. The more you play the more you lose.

You are correct for flipping a coin (ie, independent events). Scratch off tickets are dependent in that all tickets (all possible scenerios and win/loss possibilities) have been determined in advance (they have been printed and are out there in the universe of tickets for that game).

When scratch tickets are printed, the algorithm used distributes them among books, packs, or groups. All ticket books, packs, or groups have a certain number of winners in them (put there on purpose by the printi... [ More ]

About your post though, if you buy 150 of those tickets you're talking about then you get to play 77 dollars more than you spent with the good chance of winning over 77 dollars (Example: 85-90, or more)

Then, once you go play those 77 dollars worth, you win lets say another 30 to 40, play that, win another 10 to 15 or more, play that, couple free tickets, play that, nothing.

So you get to play over 100 dollars more than you spent (about 120-140 est.)

I believe, there COULD be a 1 out of 10 chance to scratch 10 in a row with no winner if you buy a whole book, i believe that.

but never 20 losing tickets in a row in the same book.

Can't you win up to half a million on the monopoly game? I know its over $100,000 and then another $50,000

but they got $1000 to $15000 too.

like $2000, $2500, stuff like that.

When you scratch them you always see $1500, $2000, $3000, $5000

So I'm assuming it is possible to win those amounts or otherwise they wouldnt come up when you scratch them, right?

Odds of winning any prize overall are based on all the tickets of any given game, not each pack of tickets.

What's being posted by some in this thread is the same thing as people who learn that there should be a 2 or 12 every 36 rolls of the dice, so they actually stand at a game and wait for 35 rolls to show and then bet snake eyes and box cars .

Books and groups of tickets are printed with a certain percentage of winners in them. This is done so that each book will not have an unusually large number of winning tickets and each book will not have an unusually large number of losers.

In fact, many states will advertise that a book or pack has a "guaranteed" amount of winning tickets in that book, pack, or grouping. The number of guaranteed winners also means there will be a number of guaranteed losers in each pack.

Exactly, but it looks like some people believe that means that every fourth ticket is a winner.

It means that they don't have to have 75 winners on a roll of $1 tickets. (those rolls have 300 tickets on them).. They only have to prove that for every three losers a winner (of at least a ticket) was printed.

On the back of the ticket it says overall odds so it's possible (though highly unlikely) that one roll of 300 tickets could have 300 winners... [ More ]

It seems to me, you can apply that different strokes for different states philosophy to lotteries such as, the pick5. In states like Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut...When you hit on all 5 numbers. If you buy 100 one-dollar tickets, you will play over 200 dollars in tickets or close and only spend 100 from your pocket.

My information is correct regarding scratch ticket printing algorithms. The examples given were for the game I used as the example with the stated prize ratios. I have seen many different prize distribution ratios for $1 games. Some have top prizes as little as $50 and as high as $10,000, with various lesser prizes. Some have more upper level prizes and fewer lower prizes...some have the reverse. It all depends on how the game is set up.

If you buy the same ticket with a higher amount of money, you're more likely to get over $20-$100 in free play.

Example: I buy 100 1 dollar monopoly tickets and get $61 in winnings, then play that $61 in winnings and win 30 in winnings, then play that 30 and win 35, then play that 35 and win 12, then that 12 and win 5, then that 5 n get a free ticket, that free ticket and get a loser.

That is false. I've won two $25 tickets of the same ticket in 1 roll.

I've won more than 4 $10 winners in the same roll.

Where did you get this information from?

I once spent $120 in the same ticket and won over $150 in winnings, then spent that n won over $100 - same monopoly game.

It means that if they print 400 tickets 100 would be winners, 300 losers... Not necessarily back to back on the same roll..

It means that ticket winners (winning a free ticket) is counted as a winner of the promised 1 out of four tickets.

maybe on a good day that might happen but what if you bought three tickets in a row and they were winners somebody else comes in behind you and buys 20 tickets off the roll you just won on and their 20 tickets didn't win squat./ Don't believe for a minute that the odds of 1 in 4 are correct.

You could by a roll of tickets say 100 dollars worth and only win 20 bucks total.

Try it with 20 dollars of the same kind of 1 dollar monopoly ticket and you will see you play over 35 to 45 dollars in tickets by the time you're done - assuming you don't hit $50 to $150 to $250 or more. It's like you spend 35 to 45 or 50 dollars but only 20 dollars came out of your pocket.

Seems like your game is to see how long $20 can last you in scratching.... I had rather keep my $20.. lol

The odds of winning anything on a single ticket are decreased if you buy 5 tickets from different games, but you increase your odds of getting two higher tier prizes if you go with different games.

For example, if you buy 5 tickets from a single game, your odds of getting TWO or more $25 or greater winners is virtually zero. If you buy 5 tickets from 5 different games, your odds of getting TWO or more $25 or greater tickets are better (although still very poor odds, but better than zero).

In each "book" of tickets, there will be a certain number of low tier winners. In each "group" of books, there are 1 or a few next higher tier winners. Among the many groups, there are next higher tier winners, and so on, with one big winner within a major grouping of tickets. If a game has 3 jackpot prizes available, only 1 jackpot prize will be within a major grouping of tickets (there would be 3 major groupings if there are 3 jackpot prizes).

It doesn't matter, you're guaranteed at least 30 and probably over 30 winners no matter where you start.

on average, 1 out of every 4 tickets are a winner in each roll. Its on the back of the tickets.

Make sure its the same type of ticket though. Don't buy 30 of one ticket, 20 of another, 10 of another, ect. or you decrease your odds.
