When I cash in a winning ticket, I already know how much it's worth, (usually not much LOL). So there is zero chance of a clerk cheating me. I imagine there are people out there who rely on a clerk to scan their tickets, and that is foolish. There are many ways to check; TV, newspaper, and of course, state lottery web sites. One time I had a P3 ticket worth $400, and the clerk at Tom Thumb blurted out to anyone in earshot in amazement what it paid. I was annoyed, and said thanks, I know, you don... [ More ]

I think it depends on what kind of tickets are being bought. If they are scratch and win I definately think it is a great idea not to let them buy tickets from where they work. Granted most people who buy tickets from their place of employment are doing so honestly, when someone does win it can draw negative attention to the retailer and the winner. By making things simple and not letting them buy from their place of work it avoids all sorts of problems and potential for scandal.

The only thi... [ More ]

Funny this poll would come up now. I buy my tics at the same convenience store owned my Middle Eastern folks. Very nice people. I always joke with her (the owner) that her machine is broken (I don't win too much). But she has had pretty good luck lately. She won $500 on Pick 3 last month, and won on 2 separate scratch offs for over $1000. I don't it should be outlawed, her chances are as good as anyone elses, and I don't see how anyone can really cheat, esp online games.

A little side note.... [ More ]

No! I used to buy tickets at the liquor store I worked at all the time. In fact if I WOULDN'T have been able to buy my lottery tickets there I wouldn't have bought any at all. The convenience was nice and at times wound up buying more then I should have, lol. If you're a cheater you will always get caught anyway, it's just a matter of time.

The idea is that if they buy tickets at their own store, it sometimes gives rise to cheating. A crooked agent will tell a customer, you won $3 and hand them $3, but the ticket is really worth $3 million. That could even be done with online tickets. You matched 3 of 5, pay $10 and really it's 4 or 5 of 5. They should be fully able to buy tickets elsewhere. The problem is this may be difficult to enforce. One crooked agent could be in cahoots with another and trade winning tickets. There is al... [ More ]
