Interesting choices you have in poll. For me, it is to win the JP for sure. Of course, winning anything in the second or third tier would be great too.

I really want to retire soon. Been working for the last 44 years and want to just sit back, travel and fish with family.

I think everyone wants to win a jackpot, but if I end up winning $1,000 , I'd be happy. Anything is better than nothing. Sure..the odds are against us, but you cant win if you don't play...only takes 1 ticket.

I think if I ever played the lottery it'd be one of those hospital-type charity ones, because I follow a philosophy of selfishness. Like, if I were to donate blood, I would have to justify it to keep from iron levels getting too high, or to become stronger by getting accustomed to the pain of needles which is necessary for giving blood tests at old age.

On my own, I play Louisiana Lotto every drawing and I play the 5 number game Easy 5. The prizes are smaller, but the odds aren't too bad. I only play Powerball when it gets above $100 million.

In addition, I run a lottery pool at work where we all put in $4 every payday and buy a mix of Powerball and Lotto tickets. We've won some small prizes of $3, $4, or $7, but haven't won the jackpot yet, but someday.

I play because I want to be known as that fool who played the lottery (PB/MM/lotto) religiously and came up big time in his folly! I don't bother with anything less than the occasional pick 5 game as I am in it (playing the lottery) to win it BIG, not just a few thousand dollars when all my numbers match. Playing the lottery is entertainment for me.

I can go out and spend $$$ to watch a movie and eat popcorn - no return. And the movie stinks.

Or I can invest the same amount of money buying lottery products.

Sometimes I get my $$ back, most times it goes to the state. A form of tax that I can manipulate.

Or, I invest my $$ in an on-line game with obscene jackpots, or, I could, and have, win a second

level prize. I can then use the winnings to buy more lottery products.

Reasons why i play are many:

1.Win The Jackpot ...so i can use the money to lead a better quality life, (house, more vacations, not work so hard, not worry so much about bills etc) i mean $100,000 will be a fix for a year or two but then its back to work...

2.Win so I can become famous...and be called a WINNER

3.Win so i can defy the odds...IT CAN BE DONE!!!!

4. If i ever hit it big i have this idea... to give 90% to charity...I don't need $100 million...$1 or $2 mill will do just f... [ More ]

I would have to say its a little of all the choices..but if I ever win a jackpot I hope it would be off of numbers that I picked..it would just feel much better after doing all of the work and having something to show for it..but would I refuse a quick pic win..absolutely not..

Well, I checked to win the pot, but actually I'd be ok with a 2nd tier prize, I could open up my own mom and pop brokerage firm, Big Time tho'. Things could move so much faster! With the jackpot, my job is simply watching my money, full time enough employment!! But ya know, the part that's scary is how much I actually spend on super lotto, and mega monthly! I don't play JPs often anymore. The odds are just too rediculous. My motivation is beating the p-3, and that is hard enough with a 1000 to 1.

My rationale is that once someone can consistently win with p-3 (the lowest odds in the lottery world), then they should use that talent for harder games. I don't want to burst any bubbles, but the reality is that it's 99 percent luck with JPs...period. I don't care what system you have, the odds will rule everytime.

I play to win the jackpot, but I also hope to win enough little prizes ($1, $3, $10, $30) to give me a bit of encouragement as well as helping offset a small part of the cost of playing. I try to avoid having a net cost of more than about $300 a year for this form of entertainment, so more little prizes allows me play more. Some years are better than others in this respect.

With good odds of winning nothing, players are happy to win anything but most, including me, play to win a jackpot. Now that the the MegaMillions jackpot is $155M ($70.2 cash), many will be joining their co-workers and friends to form lottery pools hoping to improve their chances of winning a jackpot.

I defiantely agree that im playing to win the jackpot, I hate when I win $10-$20 because I should be taking some of that back but then in the back of my mind I am saying that I didn't buy a ticket to win 20 bucks I bought it to win big and all the money goes back into the lottery again.

While I'm happy to win anything, I'm after the jackpot so I can retire, and the Mrs. can retire. She lost her job about a year ago after 27 years with the same company. It took her 9 months to find another job, and frankly, it had an effect on her with the way these corps treat people. We are both ready mentally, but not financially (yet) to tell our employers to get lost.

BTW, the jackpot has to be at least the Tx 2 Step, and then probably around $500K (it starts at $200K). With our other in... [ More ]

I checked to win a jackpot but $50,000 would be okay. Of course, one of these days I will have invested more than $50,000 so I'll just break even at that point!

I want to win a jackpot of course (who wouldn't?) but it doesn't have to be $100 million. I'm not sure if I'm going to buy a raffle ticket this month, but $1 million would be just fine, and I won't pout if I get only the $100,000 prize.
