I don't think it will make it to $300 million. I think it will roll one or two more times and then get hit.

Just two more rolls to over $200 million, four more to over $300 million, and (probably) six more to a record!!

On a side note, amazingly, there were 25 match 5+0 winners in last night's (12/14) draw, meaning we were lucky there was a rollover

It's still unlikely, but a Holiday record is now a lot more likely than it was. For the record jackpot last March MM went from 130 to 390 in 5 rolls. It's taken 11 rolls to reach 137 instead of 10 to reach 130, and lower interest rates mean the annuity values are smaller, but another 5 rolls could bring it to the very high 300's for the January 1st drawing. Tickets as Christmas presents could be just what it takes to reach a new record.

I used to offer poisson type calculations here based on historical sales data. I still maintain the spreadsheets but now keep them for private interest.

From these sheets and the models I have generated, I would estimate that we now, being at a ninth roll, have about an even chance of reaching a twelfth roll.

The mega millions and powerball pots have not grown too large since August. I know for many of you, 50 million is exciting, but to me, buying a 300 million dollar ticket takes the cake for dreaming. It's just more exciting, although I'd be happy with 3 million. Anyhow, since the pots really do not grow that large too often, I just wanted to get everyone's take on when they think it will hit this time around.
