That's mighty strange: FYI: I downloaded the file from the site, then I compared it to the copy I have to verify that the download was good: All before posting the link.

Since the 4 digit numbers appear to be separated by a space in your example, you could save the file as a text file and then open the text file in excel. When you open the text file in excel, open it as Delimited,select Next then select space as the the delimiter. This will put each 4 digit number into its own cell and then you can copy and Paste Special using the Transpose feature.

Thanks. I knew about the transpose feature but it doesn't work with this type of problem where all the numbers are already in horizontal cell.

If you ever come across this problem again with the numbers in an excel file, just:

1.highlight and copy a complete row

2.move to a blank cell away from the rest of the numbers

3.right click, select Paste Special, click the transpose box

4.click OK.

Your numbers that you copied from the row will then be in a single column.

Raven I could not d/l textwiz --it says the file is discontinued but i am searching for it on sourceforge. JRking thanks for the forum link.

Don't know if Excel is the way to go.

If I have a list of numbers looking like below (much larger reality), how could I get them quickly into a single column either in excel? If it can be done in notepad that would be okay.
