The example in the OP is a wee bit far fetched, nobody is going to come into $200,000,000 and give it all way. They might give a large amount away, but take what's reamining and use it to generate more, but no one is going to give away $200,000,000.

This thread is a good place to mention the nouveau riche . It's a French term meaning the new rich, i.e., people that come into a large amoung of money, enough to make them rich, but were not born into it or raised with it.

I wonder how many of those 300 or so persons on Pan Am flight 103 over scottland who perished were moral abiding, god fearing individuals.

First of all I voted that it's none of my business. After all, people give millions of dollars away all the time, whether it's to family members, charities or they blow it on toys. Just read the celebrity gossip. I would care if the money was donated to a terrorist group however! What about an organization like the Ku Klux Klan or a hate group? What about $200 million to a drug dealer or child porn distributor?

It's their money. They can do whatever they want with it, including giving it all away.

I think that most jp winners are obviously not members of LP. In fact, most of them are probably only interested in the lotteries for the fun of getting a ticket and seeing if they win anything, rather than being so terribly serious about cracking the jackpots . You didn't offer a choice I'd be elated! Actually, while I believe it is the person's money to do with as he/she chooses, whether or not I'd actually be pleased if someone gave it all away would depend upon the extent to which or the organizations or types of individuals to whom the gifts were made reflect my own values. Sometimes an additional income, whether it came from a lottery winning or from any other source, will just increase your income tax more than what the winning is worth. To the winner, it is more prudent to give the money away.

Even though i said i would burn 250 million dolllar lolttery ticket and place it on youtube, this is what i will do the most with it......If i get 200 million dollars I will talk to lottery officials, try to persuade them into placing at least 4 lotteries like West Virginia Cash25 into some 4 to 5 states spread acrous the country (like an extra lottery)...I will then use the money to talk and lobby lottery officials from 4 differnt asian countries into making having West Virginia Cash25 lottery.... There must be something very wrong with me if I answer furious . There are so many reasons in the world to be furious about (injustice, abuse, corruption, etc), but to be furious at someone who decides to play the lottery (and wins) in order to be able to give more? Naah. I'll just hope that she/he will be wise in her/his giving, that it will bring good to the recipients and not bad.

In today' society, it's not too absurd to see a poll about someone who has a lot of money suddenly from a JP windfall, and decides to give every penny away.

If you feel like it, please explain why you feel this way about the whole idea. Would it furiate you, or just cavalier about the whole thing.
