New South Wales' Jackpot Lotteries and Queensland's Casket lottery do something similar to this. It's a good idea, these raffles need more overall winners, lots more.

This is a neat idea! I hope the lotteries read this. It may be a nice way to get more people on board -- you know, the people who can't stand the fact that there are no $1 prizes. (I personally don't get it, but many people do in fact like those under-$10 prizes!)

I like the idea that the closer you get to the actual number, the more money you get.

D'oh! I missed that one. Although again, not the end of the world even if you sell them sequentially. Some might think it unfair that one person won one million, and $100,000 and $10,000 becasue they bought three sequential tickets, but I don't think it's a killer. Perhaps it might sell the game out more quickly with people multiple tickets at the same time. But combined with the problems above it might indeed kill this whole idea.

If you do this, then the tickets that are sold have to be issued randomly, not in the order they are sold, or you would often get people who bought 3-4 tickets winning multiple prizes.

Wow, great analysis!

I wasn't thinking about those pesky flies, though. Hmm. But your idea of doubling of prizes in case of very near numbers isn't so bad. And the rolling round between the far ends might be confusing for some, but it could work that way.

But it's probably a good idea to make a game as simple and clear as one can with as few confusing situations possible. Too many what happens if such-and-such happens might be not only confusing for some but also lead to legal... [ More ]

The concept can work even awarding prizes down to $1. Then the prize money awarded is $4,888,888. Selling tickets for $20 each makes the take $10M. Payout percentage would be 48.9% - a little low, so aditional lower-tier prizes could be awarded.

The fly in the ointment in this concept is if the numbers drawn were close together or even consecutive. That can happen. Duplicate prizes for the ticket? Also, if an extremely high or low number is drawn - for instance, 000002 - then the lower-tier p... [ More ]

What are your comemnts on the follwing idea for a raffle game?

Let's call this a Grenade Raffle or Horshoe Raffle . Here, being close counts.

Let's say you have a typical range of tickets/numbers, e.g., 1-500,000.

Four numbers are picked for a prize of $1,000,000.

e.g., : 007345 101835 218518 472111

Eight numbers will win $100,000, but these are the numbers closest to the top draws (+/- 1).

Following our example
