Sunday I gave the cashier 2 P3 playslips one went through but the other one didn't because I had forgotten to mark the boxes Any Order and .50 So I told her I wanted 5 QPs. Expecting 5 new P3 QPs I get 5 QPs for Powerball. On the powerball ticket I have 4 of the same numbers Line A and Line D These are the numbers Line A: 10-14-43-44-53. Line D:14-21-43-44-53

I used to buy the mistakes, thinking, this might be an omen. Then I would even ask the clerks did they have an mistakes someone did not buy and buy them. I stopped after two years of this. I never won a cent! Not even a free ticket.

Last night a lottery clerk told me they don't have to clear the screen to run play slips and the machine beeps when its ready to accept another play slip. She said the other clerk probably had her other hand on the touch screen when she ran my play slips and I think the other clerk was leaning on the machine. If two of the jackpot winners bought their tickets in states that didn't allow anonymity there could be a question of was there really another winner in another state that said the winner wished to remain anonymous. It's the perception of the jackpot winners that didn't play in the other state and played by different rules. When we consider some of the things that happened with the Tennessee Lottery, asking for proof there was actually another winner in another state is a legitimate question.... [ More ]

I can vouch for that. Not the jackpot, but lesser tier winners. Up here they have a little holder attached to the registers where they put the mistake tickets that the customer doesn't want. On the jackpot games, in the past, I've just bought one or two of those (since it doesn't seem any less likely you can win anything figuring out yuor own numbers for jackpot games) and ended up with lower tier prizes.

When it comes to jp games, luck is as good as trying to figure .

I'm pretty sure he understands the rules well enough and is referring to multiple winners that bought separate tickets in different states. If two people share a jackpot won on one ticket, it doesn't matter if the 2nd person lives on the moon. The rule that applies is the rule in the state where the winning ticket was bought.

I've seen clerks try to insert slips 5 or 6 times and then watch another clerk clear the machine and the tickets are printed the first time.

If the problem is that the right button needed to be pushed it doesn't matter who inserts the slip. OTOH, when the clerk does the same thing each time the slip is inserted, either the button(s) they're pushing only works the last time, or there is some other transient problem with the machine.

Wow that was a huge mistake.

I would be so worried that the ticket I didn't pick from the five would hit.

I answered before that I do buy them, but I just remembered a time I didn't. It was back when I was still buying the Powerplay. I asked for 5 PB's with the PP. I thought the clerk was gone a long time, but I wasn't paying much attention till she came back and said that's $50. Huh? She had printed 5 tickets with 5 lines each!!!! So I guess my answer is, it depends on how much it'll cost me. A few bucks and I'll buy the mistake. Five or more and I probably won't.... [ More ]

I'd guess the law applies according to which state the ticket was purchased in. If 2 tickets were sold, then the one in the anon state will surely be allowed to stay anon if they wish, while the one sold in the other state will have their identity released.

If only one ticket was sold in a state that releases winner identities, and that person decided to share it with a friend/relative in a state that allows anonymity, then the person in the anon state will still be required to release their... [ More ]

If 2 people win in the same state, I suppose one of the winners could certainly request anonymity if the rules allow it. (Never thought about the other scenerio.) Maybe I read his post wrong.I thought he meant that there were two winners in different states that were splitting the jackpot and one winner went public and the other prefered to remain anonymous.The winner that went public wanted the state that the anonymous winner lived in to prove that their actually was a winner by identifying the anonymous winner.

The case involving Anna Nicole Smith was different, Mike. She was a person who sought out fame and attention. She was mainly famous for being infamous. She was buried in the Bahamas because she lived there when she died. Therefore, her mother had no say in her burial. I didn't really follow the case closely, but I couldn't possibly miss it without keeping the TV off for a month.

If play slip scanners were a new idea, I could understand because there are number of reason for false readings. But once they got the bugs out, it must be operator error unless all the clerks are having that problem. I already posted, but I want to add something in response to some of the posts.

To avoid getting quick picks for the wrong game, just mark a card if that's an option in your state.

Regarding all the responses like what if my number comes up and I didn't buy it? or maybe it's an omen, if the odds are already so astronomical that only 1 combination in 23 million can win, and with games like PB and MM as much as 1 in 176 million, then what are the chances the one you don't buy will hit that... Would you explain that to me? The machine couldn't be confused by dirt because the clerk says it's acting up? Wouldn't that be exactly what it is doing (at least allowing a broad definition for acting up )?

As far as how such things would happen, I think it's a pretty safe bet that the terminal doesn't use optical character recognition, and has no idea whether the little boxes are marked with X's, Q's, ampersands... [ More ]

Yes and no.

There is a clerk at the store where I usually buy my ticket that I guess relieves the regular clerks when they are on break or helps when there is a long line. Last week I handed her 10 play slips that should had 10 tickets but she handed me 11 tickets. I assumed she printed one of the tickets twice so instead of sorting through the tickets trying to figure out which one, I gave her the $11. So glad you reminded me of this. That happened to me 6 times in the past 10 years, and in all 6 times, the one ticket I handed back for each of those 6 times won the JP. 3 of those tickets were over 30 million. Damn, I hate when that happens. From now on I'll keep the mistake.

It also happened recently to me. For last weeks Powerball drawing, I filled out my Powerball playslip and I had chosen 5 Powerball lines and NO powerplay, well the machine wasn't working or something and it read my slip as 5 Powerball lines w/ Powerplay. Yes. Idaho only has games that can't be cancelled AFAIK and I don't want to hear on the news that someone bought the ticket I turned down.

In fact, I just bought one yesterday. Last week I handed the cashier playslips with quick picks. He told me he preferred I just ask for a quick pick, I didn't need to fill out a playslip. I told him I often get the wrong games if I just ask.

If I play a number and retailer make i like to know what ticket they are cancelling. It happened to me three times, First time they gave the wrong number and I won $40. Second time the girl cancel the number and I ask her what number she cancel and told me I brought it back for 50cents box and the number came out straight. the third time the retailer play the number straight and I told I wanted only box and the number came out straight.

Sometimes..depends. At 7-11 I once asked for 5 QPs for Fantasy 5 and got Lotto. Why should I spend an extra $5? I'm pretty easy-going, so I didn't play Fantasy 5 and just bought the Lotto tickets so I wouldn't hold up the line and nothing hit, not even 3 numbers. Now I never say Quick Pick when I play my numbers. If I want a QP I fill out a card and check the box. Funny, this happened to me last week. For some reason the machine would not read my Cash 5 playslip, and the clerk entered my # by hand, but she got one of the # wrong. She couldn't cancel the ticket so I just played that one without buying my intended numbers. Turns out it didn't matter either way, none of the numbers hit. But I did think maybe it was fate so I wasn't upset about it.

They can make mistake of the wrong drawing(midday instead of evening), wrong numbers, wrong order of numbers etc....

Ok I have had this happen recently and ended up buying them anyway plus the ones that I wanted.
