I believe Mississippi just voted on getting a lottery and it was shot down..I saw the news clip on T.V. on the computer actually..WDAM.COM..I think is the site..had some smuck on there that worked for the gaming commission of Mississippi saying the reason we have the casinos and the reason they are still here is that they were promised that they would not have any gambling competition..so there you go..I doubt we will ever get a lottery..

The Casinos in Nevada pay so much in taxes to the state, they don't have a state individual income tax, a corporate income tax and they don't tax your retirement from other states like most other states do! Most of the other states that have some form of gambling are just greedy chumps; because they still tax the heck out of you for anything and everything they can tax you for! I think they forgot to factor in the populations of the 12 Mega Millions states and just assumed there are more players in the 29 Powerball states.

MM needs more states so it can better compete with PB.

MM started 2008 with an advertised jackpot of $33 million, has paid jackpots of 33 and 270 million, and is now advertising a jackpot of 135 million. That has generated almost 750 million in sales. PB started 2008 with an advertised jackpot of 52 million, and paid jackpots of 95 and 275 million, and is now advertising a jackpot of 46 million. PB sales for the year are about 620 million.

I think MM is competing reasonably well.

..The casisno industry doesn't want a lottery...I never thought of that being the reason especially since the casinoes send no money from the coffers to benefit the states they are in or do they? I do not think that they do. I agree, the next states will probably offer the MM since they are so few in number.

As for Nevada I say no way...the casinos indusrty just doesn't want a lottery.

First the Mega Millions slots were supposed to be the Nevada answer to a lottery, then came Nevada Numbers, but I just don't see Nevada becoming a lottery state.

(Which is really silly, A.C. does well and Jersey has casinos and lotto).

I realize what the odds are. But when they begin facing scrutiny perhaps they should reconsider their plan. I don't agree with alot of things Mitch Daniels did but perhaps leasing out the Hoosier Lottery to a private company would not have been such a bad thing.

You do realize 12,271,512 is a lot right? The state's population is 3.6 million and I doubt every single person(this would include children) plays Hoosier Lotto. Even at 3.6 million, that's still only 29.3%, which still is only a fraction of what the total possibilities are, and that's if there's no duplicates. After you factor in duplicates, possibility of a hit goes down even more. Take into consideration that it's possible that less than 250,000 tickets(again, not counting duplicates) per dra... Your right, I don't know the sales figures. That's why I think it would be better to base the increase off of the sales rather than have one set amount. The odds of winning are 1:12,271,512 and I don't know how well you follow the lottery or not, but the Hoosier Lotto is rarely ever won. Perhaps the news should begin questioning them again

That's $500,000 annuity, not cash, and the cash value got over 70% of what the annuity value was on that big run too. Not to mention, you don't know if that's all the lottery can afford to increase the jackpot for that game. You don't know the sales figures. I think Arkansas will be next to get the lottery since they see the revenues Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee, and now Oklahoma are getting from their lotteries. States that currently have only very profitable casinoes have those very same casinoes lobbying against state lotteries. That is why Nevada will NEVER have a lottery. I really wish Indiana would add Mega Millions. I don't forsee that happening though with the Hoosier Lotto. They need to just do away with it. The jackpot only increases 500k each time and it took more than a year for the last person to win it.

So far the PB states outnumber the MM states. No states offer both games. That would be a great convenience for those who like to play both games without having to drive hundreds of miles to a state that offers the game you want. The PB States are: AZ, CO, CT, D.C., DE, IN, ID, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MN, MO, MT. NB, NH, NM, NC. ND. OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, VT, WI, WV, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The MM States are: CA, GA, IL, MD, MA, MI, NJ, NY, OH, TX, VA, and WA.
