A clerk at Korgers ask if I was going to share my winnings..I told her I'd take a picture of the Ky lottery headquarters and bring it back to her with the address so she could see what it looks like and know where it's at so when she hits a winner she will be all set..God I am so stingy at times..

Tip! TIP!!!, haha, where were they when i lost all the money at the store, and they want a part of my winnings, i think not. No tipping here, not even if they say hey pick this one they are paid to get rid of tickets and the faster the better. I will give them a tip, buy the ticket before i do and treat yourself, lol. I really haven't won much to speak of, but when I got 4/5 (which is minimal) a week or so ago, I flipped the clerk a buck and told him to buy himself a quick pick

Sometimes, I do, sometimes I don't. Its according to the way the cashier makes me feel.... Some are very disgusting sometimes.... THey act as if theyre doing someone a favor , so deffinately thats a No tip!

Some again are so encouraging....and throw a number out to you sometimes, or Best of Luck girl!!!!!!!!! Well in that case, maybe a 20 or 30 bucks they would get from me

I work at a convenience store and while it's cool when someone gives ya a 10 or something when they win on scratchers, I don't expect it at all and would *never* do like the guy in the OP and ask for it. Especially since I see how many losing tickets the people go through to get a winner I know in the long run they are probably only breaking even at the most. I wouldn't tip the cashier for selling me a ticket, they are paid by the manager of the store to sell tickets and anything else. If I happened to win a large prize the lottery corporation not myself, would give them a seller's fee as stated in the lottery corporation information for selling the winning ticket,.

Also, any clerk that looks for a tip from you, is breaking the rules of the store.. The clerks are dishonest and greedy to look for any money from customers..

Not tipping people who draw a paycheck for their work is neither cheap nor meanspirited.I work hard for my money and don't give it away to people just because their bosses refuse to pay them enough for their work.Their gripe is not with me because I don't tip,its with their boss for not paying them what they think they deserve.

I travel alot and I don't mind tipping people but it looks like I tip too much. As far as a store clerk goes , I don't tip them because they have only inserted a play slip in a machine and gave me the tickets. They didn't help me choose any numbers nor did they pay for any of them. I don't play the same numbers in pick 3 so they are more than welcome to play off of my slip when I leave it or ask if the would throw it away. One store clerk seen I had a 500 dollars win... No, we're just not completely stupid and want to remain at least somewhat anonymous. The store they work at is already going to get a $50,000+ bonus for selling it, the owner/manager should be tipping their employees with it.

I don't know if such is still the case, but years ago when I went to Tahiti, any tipping at all was illegal. We loved it! I wish such were the case here.

I've never won enough to warrant even considering a tip, but no, I wouldn't tip a cashier who put my card through a machine. Like justexploring, most of the time I don't remember which clerk sold me the ticket anyway. Heck, I'm lucky to remember which store I bought the ticket at!

Not just NO, but Hell NAW would I tip a clerk...even if the clerk said they think a pick your number will be the Mega Ball/Powerball and I take their advice and mark that and end up winning the jackpot. Why tip them? Hell I like states like OK where you can purchase your Powerball ticket from a machine...when you do that, no need to even feel guilty about not tipping anybody as I know the machine can't talk

Tipping a waiter/waitress (especially a good one) is one thing but someone at a store is another.

I doubt many stores really pay minimum wage unless maybe it's a small mom and pop place but even still most businesses pay more since they can't attract employees at our crappy minimum wage, even places that allow tips.

I don't tip the clerks directly ... but the store where I usually buy my tickets has donation containers at every register and the money goes into a fund to help any store employee who has a financial, family, or medical emergency. So when I have a win of more than a couple of bucks, I put 10% of my win into the container at the bakery (which is where the lottery tickets are checked and winners paid out) I like all the ladies of the bakery so I make sure the one helping me sees me do it so they... I was told by the store manager that he could be fired for accepting money from a customer. He asked me to give it to him outside the store or place it in something. So that's what I do.

I don't tip the cashier. However, I'll be honest with ya.......I honestly don't know, when it comes to tipping, what I'd do if I ever hit a massive winner (e.g. 5 or 6 digits). I might go back and buy that guy or gal a nice dinner (and I'm not talking about McDonalds, either ) or something (well, give them the money for such a dinner, anyway).

(FYI, the only people I usually tip are waiters/waitresses and pizza delivery guys.

If cashing lottery tickets is part of their job description someone is paying them.If they work for mimimum wage,thats not my fault.I don't tip anyone that is paid by someone else to perform a service,whether it is waiting tables,driving a cab or cashing lottery tickets.Once you start tipping people they think that everyone should do the same.

I agree. If someone demanded that I give them something. The only thing they would get from me is a mouthful of words. I would tip those who I feel been friendly too me. Not those who think that just because the pump out tickets, mean they automatically deserve something.

You don't have to do anything except PAY TAXES AND DIE.

However, I pay 5% to the person that sold me my ticket, and 10% to charity.

It's amazing how happy the clerks get when they see you next time - particularly on a big hit.

However, do not give them their reward while the cameras are rolling or they can be fired.

I place their cash in a small brown paper bag and place it on the counter for them.

That is an excellent point! Although I am a good tipper in general (I think I am!) what about the 500 other times you lost? Do they share in that?

There are some clerks I see regularly and know by name. So maybe those people, but I really don't know which person at a gas station or convenience store sold me a ticket. I usually don't talk about stuff like this, but when I won $100 a few weeks ago getting 4/5, I didn't tip but donated some food.

I prefer to tip them when I win big, but I would not if they made me feel obligated or asked for it....that is very rude indeed. And I don't appreciate a clerk who acts like they had something to do with my win either. They neither picked my numbers nor graced me with anything leading to my decisions...My tip would simply be because I liked them or something. I like the clerks who smile and don't act like their face is gonna fall apart because they had to do their job.

Hi, if you look in the archives there are a lot of posts on this subject. Some players here tip all the time and others never do.

I recently wrote a post in the Mystical Forum about a dream I had that warned me not to tip if I win a large amount, although some people might have thought I was joking (I wasn't)

Anyway, it's totally up to you. If someone said that at the market where I buy most of my tickets, that clerk would get into hot water. I think I would tip someone if that person help... [ More ]

I agree - It was rude of them to ask for a tip or imply that it was customary... I however do tip on most occassions as long as I win atleast $50... I know they are getting paid for a job, but in most cases it's minimum wage I'm happier spreading the wealth. Also, the little bit of money you spend will come back to you 10 fold. Good Luck, Pogo

I don't know about your state lottery. Here in Maryland retailers who dispense lottery tickets are doing a service for the lottery basically for free acting as an agent for the lottery. They get a small commission for selling and cashing tickets. On a daily basis no where near enough money to pay for one machine operator day salary let alone a weeks salary.

Of course not, even if it was a big win I wouldn't, for something like Powerball or Megamillions the store typically gets a nice bonus for selling a winning jackpot ticket, they should get their tip from that. They didn't do anything other take my money and press a button or insert a piece of paper to print the numbers.
