If your boss and co-workers were nice to you don't need to go through all sorts of drama. Just give your two weeks notice and I guess they will have a farewell party for you and move on.

Just state in your resignation that you have a better offer elsewhere and you are moving on.

Don't have so much commotion around you relax with your winnings. lol.

I guess I should say I work online and have never met any of the people I work for. That's probably why I would want to scan and email my winning ticket. I wouldn't tell anybody around me I won. I'm sure the local media would do that for me since I live in a different state than I play in.

This is another thing I daydream about. It's a wonder how I get anything done with all this daydreaming. LOL.

In my head, this is how it would go down: I'd go back to work, but over a period of a week, every day I'd take a few items of personal stuff home with me until it was all cleared. Then I'd leave my ID badge on my desk along with a letter of resignation.

If it was a sizable jackpot, The first thing I would do is call in sick the next morning so I could take that ticket and lock it up safe in a safe deposit box. I would then go in and ask for a week's vacation and take that time to arrange things between my finance advisor and a CDARs bank. I think that would make it pretty easy to figure out though. You'd probably be better off waiting until things are set up if you want no one to know. Then again, you might not care who finds out after you're gone. In a way that's how I feel because then it won't matter as much.

I like what Chippie wrote. If you've worked with/for people you've grown to like respect, you can't just walk out on them. However, if your boss was a creep and your co-workers were nasty, I'd suggest calling on Mon to say There was a family emergency over the weekend I have to leave the state! Since I live in Ohio I would claim it anonymously by a blind trust. I would still go in to work that day and go in the office and tell my boss that I had to quit due to personal reasons . I would stay till the first break not really working too hard. I wouldnt tell anyone at work that I won because it would cause quite a commotion. Say my goodbyes and then never come back again. Then I would give my last couple checks to some random person who looked like they could use it.

I would not tell my employer. It is really none of his concern. I traded my hours for dollars and that is the extent of our arrangement. No one will find out in my case, I would claim it anonymously. I would quit as soon as I know the money is secure in my bank account. No need to worry about burning bridges, after a big jackpot win, I can build my own ;-)

Even if you love your job, co-workers are going to treat you a little differently and as one jackpot winner said, when you win, some people think you have become their ATM.

As crazy as it might sound, I envision winning enough...but, not enough to tell my employer, see ya! I'm looking at just enough to be comfortable, get rid of the anxiety and focus all that wasted energy on somethings more constructive be it charity/volunteer stuff, family time or whatever!

I've worked for the same company for 20 years so if I ever won a jackpot I'd call HR very quickly and start planning my retirement.... I have so much accrued leave time I'd get about 3 months of pre retirement vacation at full pay :) So I'd be able to be on vacation while working with financial advisors to make sure I can stay that way. I think it depends on your personal situation. It's true that we can all be replaced, sometimes by machines. LOL However, as times goes on, you learn that many things you do in life has an effect on others. If it doesn't matter to you, then I guess that's okay. Waiting out the two weeks seems like the right thing, but truth be known if you made that kind of score anything that even upset you a little bit and you'd be out of there, right then and there.

I would quit immediately. Whether or not I'm nice about it depends on how I was treated at that job. A piece of paper is very fragile. Who knows what might happen to it. I might lose my wallet. I might forget to take my wallet out of my pants and put it in the wash. Someone might steal my wallet. I am a person who has no problem claiming the very next day. I want that money in the bank. I'll get advice AFTER I actually have the money.

I would immediately quit, but with a financial understanding between me and my employer. I would probably give a high end estimate of what i would owe if I had still been working for the next two weeks.

I'd also give extra just because.

I totally agree GamerMom. I couldn't stand the wait. Too busy planning.

I couldn't leave this place fast enough...lol

Bottom line, I'd make sure my employer was satisfied, especially with perks.

Right now I don't have a boss, but when I did, I definitely would have given 2 weeks notice, or at least enough time to allow the company to make arrangements to replace me. In this economy it would take a few hours! Lee County FL has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country.

I would never say why I was leaving. I'd probably just say I decided to move back to Boston or take some time off.

How would you do it? take this job and shove it? or would you be nice about it?

I have visions of scanning my ticket and attaching it to an email with the subject: Letter of resignation.
