Case in point, someone playing MM combination 08 09 14 38 44 +36 on 06/06/08 would have matched 3 for $7, but playing it again two drawings later on 06/13/08 would have matched 5+1 for the jackpot. Same thing could have happen on 01/18/08 for the person playing 12 22 33 43 44 +02 on 01/18/08 and playing it again for the next drawing on 01/22/08.

Players who travel a long distances to play certain lottery games probably play multi-draw all the time which could be up to 10 drawings.

Not really because people play multi-draw tickets and might not even know they won a jackpot and played the same combination in the next drawing. If they read the winning ticket was sold where they bought their tickets, I bet they would check unless they were on vacation.

My ex played the same numbers for fri. that won tue. MM jackpot. Then showed me the ticket and the winning numbers on the MM website. I got all excited until I looked at the date on the ticket. Big joke on me

you have a point there, here in oz a game is drawn once a week not twice, i meant the following draw, ie same set of winning numbers in the follwong draw. im getting the idea people will repeat 2 or 3 but no more.

AFAIK in Florida Lotto no 6 number winning combination has been repeated. However, I've played the same numbers and gotten 3 or 4, which is better than nothing. Numbers repeat all the time. I just wouldn't play more than 3 or 4 of them.

However, if the drawings are indeed random, you do have a point.

I track that, too: how many times a series of 5 WB's has hit 3x or more since 1998:

(meaning: of the 5 numbers I have selected, how many times has any 3 of them hit since ?)

But tracking that is kinda irrelevent: it is very rare to find 4 of the 5 WB's (in PB) hitting again somewhere down the road, luckily PB.com has a 'search' feature that lets you plug in a set of numbers: I do that after I make my selections, and if I have a 4x5 that has hit before, I change it to a 3x5.

The question isn't worded very well because it's playing last weeks numbers in this weeks draw . There are two drawings every week so while the odds against 5 of those 10 numbers hitting in the next draw with either of the PBs is extremely high, the odds of 1 or some of them being drawn is less than 5 to 1 (45 to 10).

I was initially referring to playing a number combination of either either a regular six number game or a 5+1 game again that had already won. I then went on about how I wouldn't use a combination that already came up matching 3+1, 4+0 or better but that was also referring to 5+1 games. I know all about numbers repeating themselves, since it's very noticeable and I have made multiple posts here about it. I was sure DC was talking about combinations of 3 or more. Anyone can look at the last 10 drawings of MegaMillions and see that not true for 1 or 2 number combinations.

DC, you just proved to me you don't track numbers much, or your definition of 'never' and 'very long time' is quite different than mine.

You really need to know what you are talking about before making a blanket statement like that, because you are, ummm - what's the word ? Oh yeah - wrong.

Now, lately, single numbers have not repeated as much as in the past: there was a time not that long ago where in a span of 100 PB games, we had 48 numbers repeat. It's nowhere near that currently, but... [ More ]

No, the odds are so low as it is that once a number is played it'll probably never come up again, or at least for a very long time. Obviously I'm referring to 6 number of 5 + 1 games with a lot of balls, not smaller games with much lower odds. The odds of a set of numbers being picked is already astronomical in games like Mega Millions and Powerball, if I bothered with a system I wouldn't play any combination that's 3+1 or 4+0 and higher, even with matrix changes.

I wouldn't play all of the same numbers on a pick 6 or pick 5 + 1 game. I frequently play some of them, though, as I tend to play the same numbers for an extended period, whether or not any of them were drawn previously.

just getting some idea of what percent of people mght actually play last weeks drawn numbers in the following weeks draw.

it would only take a small percent to turn a jackpot win into nothing to write home about; because you cant afford the stamp.

math wise theres no diff from using last weeks numbers as picking your own 6 , as the balls dont have a memory and you are testing after last weeks draw so odds are still the same as 6 random numbers.

just some thoughts thanks
