Wow, that does make the Powerball site look even worse, not to mention extremely bush league.... Not that it didn't look that way before, but MM just looks so much better and professional. I like the Bottom Line thing they have near the bottom where you can see details of what a annualized win of certain amounts translates to with the annuity and cash option. Makes me want to win a 350M jackpot even more.

That's the idea, to draw in customers, and that's how the lottery commissions sell it to the retailers.

But in practice, the cashiers often act annoyed when you hold up the line and it's busy.

Retailers sell lottery tickets to attract customers, if they don't want customers who buy lottery tickets then they don't have sell them, there are plenty of other retailers who will. Wal-Mart doesn't want to be bothered with lottery customers so they don't sell them.

Doesn't matter how or why that is.

If you're a retailer in TX, one of your customers winning big one day is a retirement plan for you.

If you're a retailer in NJ, one of your customers winning big one day means you'll have some spending money.

Which state would you rather be a retailer in, TX or NJ?

Probably also affects the way the store owner treats you when you come in to buy tickets,

in which the TX retailer would act in a way to encourage repeat visits whereas the NJ retailer... [ More ]

The reason TX has a different bonus is because each state has it's own lottery through which MM is played. Mega Millions does not decide how much of a bonus a retailer gets; the state lottery does. TX also added the Megaplier, which other states don't have.

Fancy new website for megamillions. Of course, PB site still looks like it

was designed in the mid-90's.

Anyway, funny thing I noticed is that in the info for TX it says

that retailers make 1% of announced jackpot, capped at $1M,

whereas for NJ it says retailers get a flat $10K. So that last jackpot

would've gotten a TX retailer a cool mil, but since it was

sold in NJ it only got the retailer $10K. Kinda big disparity there.
