This is about letting go........... of the Honda or Toyota. I never thought that I would be thinking (jackpot or no jackpot) of how to get rid of stuff, I guess the best way would be simply to donate. In this area we have AMVETS, Melwood, Goodwill, NAMA, The Childrens center, etc. it would be easy, make some calls and be done with it, some even take cars, boats, airplanes, property, no problem.

My computer is now beyond ancient at five years old to where the only really beneficial thing to upgrade would be the CPU and to do that I'd be better off just building a new one. I still wouldn't give it away, unless I did while keeping my hard drives. Besides, it could always be used as a guest computer since it's still more than good enough to browse the internet or do other basic tasks with.

The point of having gobs of money, IMHO is for the freedom to come and go as I choose. The gratifying part to me is not being encumbered by the trappings which one perceives as a necessary component of wealth.

I would get tax breaks from donating to my favorite charities and volunteering, once I get the freedom thing out of my system.

I chose furnishings though I dunno if I'd give them away either, maybe just have a yard sale and sell pretty much everything cheap enough for it to all be gone in a day or two, what small amount of items I'd be keeping would fit in a small U-Haul trailer if I needed the room. I'd use that money for the gas I'll need on my way down south.

What's the point of having gobs of money if you don't spend at least some of it in some sort of self gratifying way? You can always invest in munis and t bills to reduce your tax liabilities.

The government is going to get you one way or another. Death and taxes - the only certain things in life, and the biggest certainty is they tax you to death, then tax you again for having the audacity to die before they get everything. Might as well go out happy than worrying about taxes.

I have thought of giving away my car. but if you give it to someone who knows you are rich if they have an accident or break down in it the first thing they would do is sue you. You really cannot help people in the day and age. I think i would just trade it in on the purchase of a new vehicle.

The things I would keep would be my computers, laptops and files, tv (it's awesome!), family heirlooms (guns, weapons, china, silver and such), my animals (I have four., 2 dogs and two cats.) There are some things I would give away, but I wouldn't just dump everything. Some things I have are personal and I could never just throw them away or give them up.

I would try to give away most of the things in my house other than a few items of sentimental value. My kids are young and in college, so used furniture would be a boon to them when I boot them out of the house after winning the jackpot.

Actually, I'd be setting them up in apartments while I get rid of the house and move to my new home in a much warmer climate.

You wouldn't have to worry about that (grin). When you have at least 6 months left on the Cobra extension, join the Chamber of Commerce and get yourself association plan benefits. There's a 6-month waiting period for pre-existing conditions ... which would be up by the time your Cobra benefits expired.

I think I'd ask my stepson if he'd like to buy my home (view property in a tourist location) as his vacation home. I'd sell it to him for, say, $100,000 under market value. I'd have to declare the undervaluation as a gift, of course, but he'd get a bargain and that wouldn't use up too much of my million dollar exclusion from gift taxes. personally I have a cardiac birth defect with a possibility of a valve placement in the future so i doubt i'd get much coverage when my 18 months are up. I may just have to work 3 months ever so often to get coverage, quit and get cobra again LOL.

My employer has a Cobra policy ... allowing former employees to retain their coverage for up to 18 months after leaving by simply paying the entire premium (including the employer portion) themselves. But here's a thought.

I guess I'm the odd person (grin). I live a rather Spartan lifestyle and don't surround myself with things. I like what I have and would keep what I have. Perhaps the one major thing I'd do is move to a different part of the country.
