This is what I found on the New York Lottery website.

The estimation of Mega Millions jackpots is based using projected sales. Sales are estimated by a Finance Committee consisting of Finance personnel from each Mega Millions state. The committee bases its estimate upon recent historic trends, weather, competing jackpots and the amount to which potential players are distracted by current events. Once sales are estimated, the jackpot is set using a formula regarding how much of each sale... [ More ]

I live near a border NJ/PA and it effects what I buy.

Many hundreds of thousands of people, actually millions if you count Philadelphia, live in a similar way in this area.

It must effect sales.

I would play both regardless of the diffence in jacpot size, this way I double the number of times I am in a jackpot draw.....(4 times a week vs. 2). If I win the smaller jackpot I will feel bad for about a second.

I don't know why it would make a game seem less attractive. After all, that person's state doesn't have the other game. There's nothing they can do about it. Even if I was able to play both games, I wouldn't decide which one to play strictly on whichever one has the larger jackpot unless it's a short drive.

I live in an area where i'm 45 minutes away from a powerball and mega million state and I choose what game to play strictly on who has the larger current jackpot. My question is for those who don't have the option of playing both games . When you see the powerball swell up to 176 million and the mega millions at only 24 million, does this in any way make mega seem less atractive and does it limit your mega play at all
