I've never seen a scratch off ticket that the lowest prize was less than the price of a ticket.I would never play a scratch off ticket that only paid 1/4 of the price of the ticket.

I remember back when PA and OH offered $20 tickets that at least got $5 back. That was back when they were intended as gifts.

I just noticed something. TN just released Holiday Cash a $5 instant ticket. The ticket offers a Top Prize of $75,000 and its overall odds are 1:4.22. Can someone say RIP OFF? FYI: They have a $5 ticket called Sapphire Blue 7's that offers a $77,777 top prize and overall odds are 1:3... You do that math. I think I'll stick to Sapphires. I've done well on them in the past. I think I'll bybass the TN holiday greed.

That ticket is actually a GA ticket. I've played it a few times buying only one ticket at a time. However, the most I've won on this ticket was $50. I don't get to Play GA tickets often because I'm either here at school or when I am back home in the Tennessee Valley I don't go to GA much. But when I do I make sure I pick up a MM and a Jumbo Jumbo Bucks if I have some extra cash. There is no rhyme or reason with scratch offs either you buy a winner or you buy a looser. Some people win the jackpot prize within the first weeks of the start of a game. Some win during the middle of the run and some win big at the end of a run. Consider the fact that they print millions of scratchers. Just wanted to add one more thought to this thread. I am starting to wonder if the tickets released even a year or so ago might not be a better bet than those released recently scratchoffs (including the holiday tickets).

Something tells me that the older tickets - even though most of the top prizes have been claimed - might yield a greater number of lesser-amount prizes than the recently-released tickets.

Well, I'll speak for the Southeastern Pa. - Bucks County region, although not statistically nor scientifically, just based on personal experience and what I hear from others who play: Those holiday scratchoffs are not making anybody rich over in this part of the country. I think when a state starts its first lottery doings, they seed the scratchoffs. WHen WI started theirs in 1989 (as I recall) I won $500 on a $1 scratchoff. But they were promoting the lottery like crazy to get people hooked . Now, you have to look hard to even find a $1 sratchoff here that offers a top prize of $500. They have their players now, and they know they will keep getting those players money, so they likely feel they have no need to be generous .

Our latest holiday scratchoff here is $5 and has 1 in 60,000 odds at winning 60 bucks. If you buy a box quickpick for $1 you have 1 in 220 chance of winning 40 bucks.

Sounds like you have a lot better scratchoff odds in TN.

I've never had much luck with scratch tickets. I did buy a holiday-themed ticket for a friend a few years ago and they won $25 on it.

About the odds, I've noticed the odds climbing up for GA's scratchers as well. A couple of years ago, we would get new instant games with odds for $2 in the 3.6 or low 3.7-range and $5 in the 3.3 to 3.5-range and $10 tickets with odds lower than 3. Jingle Jumbo Bucks is the first new $10 game in a long time to have odds lower than 3. I don't understand. Tennessee started off strong in 2004. Their games were fun and I could actually win on them. I think greed is taking over. I've noticed a steady climb in overall odds (from ~1:3.2-~1:3.8 for an average $5 ticket.) Giant Jumbo isn't a bad tickets odds wise. Might have been a bad book... I've had my fair share of those.

Last night we went to Kentucky to play Bingo,We stoped at exit 2 lottery and said only 20.00 to lose,so we both took our 20.00 in sit down scratched off 8 of the $5.00 sleigh me the money,mine were all losers,my boyfriend hit 40.00,,,,,now kentucky has added the word free just like Tennessee , theirs say ticket....we were told that kentucky was as bad as Tennessee now...They have lost alot of buisness there.Now I know why. I've had pretty good luck on the regular $10 Jumbos as well, despite the fact that I've never won more than $20 on those (but hit plenty of free tickets and breakevens and stuff like $12 or $15).

I'll do that during Thanksgiving and Winter break. (College student on the Gulf Coast 9 months out of the year) I have played Jingle Jumbo Bucks in the past but not had luck. I like the odds though. However, Jumbo Jumbo Bucks (also a $10 ticket) is awesome. I would say that is my all time favorite instant ticket. (never had a loser) Good Luck

I've been having awesome luck in GA with the $10 Jingle Jumbo Bucks and the $2 Stocking Stuffer (hitting $50 and $20 in 2 tickets back-to-back yesterday (pics in my blog)). Maybe you oughta come to GA and try your luck here.

Here in WI the odds on scratchoffs pretty much stink. THey don't make any better allowance for the holidays either. At least they're required to print the odds on the back of the scratchoffs. Here, if you look, you will see that you have better odds of winning $40 if you buy an online Boxed Pick 3 ticket than if you buy any scratchoff.

I've always enjoyed playing Christmas themed tickets. Back in 2004 Tennessee released their first $10 scratch off and I fell in love with that ticket. The overall odds were great. The payout was the best ever for TN. However, since TN holiday themed tickets have been a class A rip off. Anyone have luck in other states? I like Florida's scratch offs but I don't get a chance to go over there and play often. I would rather drive the same distance to Biloxi and play at the Casinos.
