On the day of the drawing, the two digits for the date is within the pick 4 numbers. For an example using 12/01/08, we would use the date which is 0 and 1. That's two numbers down, two more to go.

The other two are 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 since we are going for single box play there will be 8 numbers to pair it up with, since we already used up two.
