yw

I live about 20 minutes away from the florida line...I work from home and get bored often so it's a fun little drive for me.

With Riley initiating this anti-gambling task force i don't think we will get a lottery any time soon. We are supposed to have something built called Country Crossings (http://www.countrycrossingalabama.com/) down here, it's a music venue with electronic bingo to help fund it but Riley has scared away most of the investors. Let's just say most people down... [ More ]

You're welcome! Thanks for the drinks!

Since we'll never have a lottery here in Alabama, we don't have many options for playing. It's great that you can play in FLA. I wish I could, but it's more than 3 hours to drive to the FL state line. TN is more than a 2 hour drive, and GA is the closest for me at 96 miles. We have family in GA that we go to visit once in a while, so I play then.

I live in Alabama, too. If you have lottery winnings over $600 from another state and are issued a IRS Form W-2G from that state (for Federal Tax purposes), you are required to pay Alabama income taxes on your winnings - even if you don't pay taxes in Florida. See the section Examples of Income You MUST Report on page 7 of the tax instructions - http://www.ador.state.al.us/incometax/2008_forms/08f40bk.pdf:

Prizes and awards (contests, lotteries, and gambling winnings).

Actually, you are... [ More ]

That's not how it works in Michigan or any other state. Each state has the right to tax income from that state, and they have the right to tax income earned by residents of the state, regardless of where the income is earned. Whether it's income from a job or income from gambling, the state where the money is won will tax that income (assuming that state has an income tax, and taxes it's own lottery winnings). That income will also be treated as taxable income in the state of residence, but the... [ More ]

Not that it would matter much because any jackpot amount would be signifigantly more than any amount of money I have now but....

I live in Ohio and we have MM. If I played PB in another state, like Indiana or West Virgina or something, would I have to pay their state taxes on the jackpot and Ohio taxes or just the taxes for the state where I bought the ticket
