I think they added this rule the last time they revamped Powerball.I think it was only used once,maybe twice.Its rare that Powerball climbs into record territory so its rare that this rule goes into effect.I'm not sure,but I think it went into effect when Jack Whitaker won the record Powerball jackpot a few years ago,but I could be wrong.

I saw this on the Powerball website today and it's the first I've seen of it. It's a new rule that basically says that the Powerball jackpot can't increase by more than $25 million each draw once it hits record levels, so if the powerball jackpot does that, the extra prize money will go into a poll that will be split by all the 5 white ball winners on the day the jackpot is won.
