But a related quick question... if you don't live in the state where you won the jackpot, they can't give your name or address unless you allow them, correct? Because you are out of state, right?

If you win money in their state you are bound by their rules.Where you live has nothing to do with it.

Remember that woman who recently collected her money who wore a disguise? I mean, really, it was still pretty obvious who it was. As for those of you saying you'd tip your hairdresser big to do your hair...um, she still knows who you are and may not hold it close to the vest .

...If any one person or group is threatening or demanding that you share your personal lottery winnings with them...be really nice just that one time, and buy them one ticket to give them the very same opportunity which you had...Wish them lots of luck...They would now have the same or similar chances as you gambled on with your originally hard-earned cash. If they don't win, it was meant to be that way...They should keep their job.

When I win, before collecting, I will immediately rent a temporary front place, out of town or state and then get a new drivers license from that new address so when they publish where I am from NO ONE will know me and others who do while looking only at my name might ask me are you John Doe who won I could say nope, he was from _________. I would also use a disguise hollywood style if a photo op is required.

If you're really concerned about it you might want to change your name too, unless you have a name that's fairly common. It's amazing what you can find with Google and your name will certainly be plastered online for everyone to look up, there might even be a picture if Florida requires a photo-op at the press conference... Might want to think about wearing a disguise.

Whatever is required by law I would do, I believe in FL your name and city are required to be announced, as soon as I got my hand on that cash I'd move immediately because

anybody can find you at any time once they have a name and city, its not very difficult. I'd most certainly hire a lawyer and talk to them on what is and isn't necessary. If I wanted to

be famous I'd have pursued a different career, I'll take that check, somebody else can take the fame.

I would tell the lottery commission that I do not speak well in public, which is true. My throat closes up and my brain leaves for vacation. For the picture, I would see if the lottery would allow me to have stand ins and if so, I'd ask a few of my son's frat brothers to get their picture taken - and in gratitude gift them with $1000. LOL. If not, I'd wear a wig, use lots of makeup (since I don't), and heavy plastic glasses if not sunglasses. I could probably talk my hairdresser into doing it al... [ More ]

An old saying, Rich people have many problems- I'd like to have thier problems. When it comes to being photographed when claiming a big jackpot, I say cross that bridge if you come to it. Most likely people will have forgotten you soon after you do. The important thing isn't what you do when you claim, its what you do AFTER you make the claim.

omg.....LMAO this is exactly what i would do. I wonder that the commission personell would say if you were to do this. I often wonder if they ask the winners not to act tarded on camera. I would act crazy in every aspect of the word. They would be ready to end that press conference early...lol

I would do that.....it would actually bring you more attention than you initially wanted. I would act quiet and reserved like the money wouldn't make or break me and slip away into the night .

I opted to go with No, claim prize and stay hidden I know that it is unlikely to be able to actually do that, but that is the plan. I would likely claim the winnings via a trust in a vane attempt to conceal my identity.

I like news conference so I can express my emotion, but I don't want many people come to bother me after a lottery winning. Thus, I choose to stay humble, collect the check in silent because the silent is weighted in gold.

Well, you can sue them, but suing the hell out of them implies winning. When you hire your lawyer he can give you the bad news about your chance of success.

I am glad that hundreds of people in LA county area share the same first and last name with me. There's no way I will have a news conference. I will make my identity as obscure as possible. Surely, I would give my SSN to the lottery office (for tax reason) but there's a good reason to hire a lawyer in case the lottery commision leak my information. Absolutely not. I notice that the Florida Lottery has recently begun to post articles about Fantasy-5 and scratch-off winners, something they rarely did before. A man won $50,000 in my area and there was a story about him in the newspaper. Since my state requires the news conference, I would just comb my exceptionaly long hair over my face and put on a pair of sunglasses to hold my hair in place and pretend that I'm Cousin It from the Adams Family.After the news conference is over I'll just duck into the nearest barber shop and come out looking like someone else.

Fame have its price...all for what really? To show off? That to get others wanting what you have and go after it. That will leave a normal mind become paranoid. Hehe. Unless of course you get 30 bodyguards with you at all times, and few snipers in position to cover the range that the bodyguards can't reach. :)

Some states require giving full name for the record. I know GA requires it. If this is the case, I am going CIA FBI style.

That is what I like about the UK National Lottery and the New South Wales Lotteries, winners are allowed to remain anonymous.

It is very rare for a news conference here in Sydney. The lottery release information, such as the area the ticket was bought, if the winner was registered and a little about them; such a grandmother , a retired garbage collector . Claim it in a trust....Let's face it, who in the world would want people camped outside your house begging for money and putting your family's life in danger? In this wonderful state of NC-depending on what county you live in, all someone has to do is know your full name and type it into the tax office website of that county and low and behold, your name and property address appears.....if that's not enough for you....then how about they even have photos of your house online on that tax website.... Some states allow winners to remain anonymous, but most states want the winner's name to be made public so that the general public can be assured that the prize is being sent to a real person.
