casinos and scratchoffs are for people that want money right away and don't have patience to wait for the drawings while the, lottery is for people that want money but have the time/patience to wait for until 11PM for the drawings....

they are two types of different customers/clients....

I don't understand, the lottery will at least to go education in that state and help the education in that state or to some charitable or important cause....Is not like beer and cigarettes where beer and cigarettes go to one person getting richer and richer and gambling you don't have to drink or smoke anything...

I used to have the Idaho account for the lottery system provider.

You can only run so many games and in a state with a small population like Idaho, its even tougher to have a healthy matrix - good prozes, good roll pattern. You also don't want to kill existing games.

Its not as easy as it we would like it to be.

Years ago I went to Utah, checked in the hotel, and went to get dinner. ROFL!! Little did I know that they didn't have beer or liquor of any kind in the state. I ordered my dinner and asked for a Bud. LOL!!! The waitress laughed at me and explained that I was in a dry state. I was young okay? 18-19 years old at the time. Not to argue, but the casino thing is no myth. After the recession of the early 1980s, Nevada casinos had to go out of state for financing. In that part of the country, that meant Salt Lake City, and of course, that meant Mormons.

Casino interests knew that the term gambling wouldn't go over big with Mormon bankers, and that is how gambling became called gaming .

For the record, the whole soda/caffeinated drinks thing is a myth as is Mormons owning their own soda company they might own stock in one, they might even own bottling plants in Utah, but they don't own any actual companies that produce a original product, at least not something widely distributed that I'm aware of. Mormons don't condone Mormons gambling, but they do have partenrtships in some casinos. (They also tell their people not to drink soda, but they own a soda company).

While it's true Nevada has a small population, it does get millions of visitors. A Nevada lottery is always a battle with casino interests, which is really ridiculous. The visitors go to Nevada to gamble, and if the casinos offered lottery tickets they'd be playing them, too.

It's almost the same here. We have Wild Card 2, Hot Lotto, Powerball and Pick 3 instead of 2by2. We don't have a Pick 4, Pick 5 or own Pick 5/6 state game. It sucks. I have written to them asking if they could include more state games of our own, but they seem happy with what they offer.

I don't want to sound disrespectful but the OP doesn't seem to know much about Mormons and doesn't seem to know that Utah is a Mormon state. Mormons ABHOR any form of gambling. Even if Utah has tens of millions of populations it won't allow lottery because of the religious conservatism.

Mississippi will have a tough time getting a lottery for the same reason Nevada would have a tough time getting one... Casinos. Mississippi citizens that support gambling go to or work for Casinos... The rest are conservative and feel like gambling is the root of all evil... I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

North Dakota DOES have a lottery - not much of one, though.

Utah is way too Mormon - besides, the jack Mormons (Mormons who drink, gamble, etc.) can always go to Idaho to get Powerbal tickets if they want to.

Nevada has tried a bunch of times to geta lottery and the casino interests shoot it down every time.

Alabama will get one eventually. Mississipi too probably.

I moved to Mobile, AL about 4 years ago and I can tell you Alabama is an odd state. People here are so hypocritical. For example... The relgious southern baptists show their hate for the lottery; however, run to Tunica to play the slot machines twice a year... Gov Riley says gambling will not come to Alabama while he's in office... I'm sorry gov but gambling is here! You have 3 casinos in this state. Two in your Back yard there in Montgomery. Small population,religion and conservatism are the three main reasons these states don't have a state lottery.Utah is comprised mostly of Mormans.Utah,Nevada,Wyoming North Dakota have small populations that probably couldn't support a lottery. Arkansas,Mississippi, Alabama are in the Bible belt.I'd be very surprised if any of these states,with the possible exception of Arkansas,get a state lottery anytime soon,if ever.

On another note, yes i am glad that vermont has weekly grand but i'll like Belgium Holland Swizerland to get the weekly grand also...I don't know why don't they call that game, paycheck because it is a paycheck...

I was in Salt Lake City for the 2002 Olympics and let's just say this. It did not seem like a state that would have a lottery. It was a very conservative town. I would think since this is such a Mormon population that they wouldn't allow any type of gambling.

Nevada already has enough gambling.

And seeing as the entire population of North Dakota falls in the 640,000 range, it's probably not worth it. Not sure on the other states, maybe someone else can shed some light.

On another take, i am happy because Vermont, Rhode Island, i think Maine and some other states of new England got the weekly grand that pays 1,000 a week for 20 years...Smart thinking...Way to go...

I hope Utah whenever it decides to have a lottery that it gets the weekly grand....even if it cost 2 dollars and that's what they should do to test the waters and be secured for 1 dollar per ticket can't be promised to anyone in a state that has not been tried out....
