Actually, I spend less then $3 a week on lotto because I am not crazy.

The last Mega Millions winner is a good example: He just bought $2 quickpicks and he won.

I don't know why you would be surprised either. Even if you were brand new to the internet, that sort of thing is also pretty common in real life, even though it's easier to spot the posers. How can you be surprised that somebody might consider that you have a gambling problem? Did you just expect yes or no answers? $400~$500/month is not a lot.

If I was the sole breadwinner, then yes. But my wife works as a public relations officer. I have no kids. I dont have a mortgage. I live just fine.

Trust me, I'm not in a financial hole - far from it.

Thanks dimondpalace. It seems some people just love to abase individuals for no apparent reason.

My colleagues poke fun of me time to time at work. They joke that I should join the nurses' lottery pool - haughty attitude to think that doctors are too smart to play the lotto.

But I think playing the lottery is fun. And $100 a week is just one of my avenues for fun. $400~$500/month is definitely an inexpensive hobby. I'm sure many people in my shoes spend far more than that on frivolous thin... [ More ]

No offense, but you need to call Florida's lottery addiction hotline. You also need a financial counselor. For lottery..just spend $3 max a week. If you're playing the big games, play only when the jackpot is high.

Personally, I would not spend $100 on Powerball...EVER. These last 2 drawings, I started with $5 QP...won $4, took that $4 and bought 4 PBQP, won another $4. I plan on taking this latest win and putting it towards tomorrow's drawing.

I usually spend $5 per Powerball drawing, always quick picks.

i agree.i know peers that have way more student loans also $500 on entertainment aint nothing believe me u got to see most of them in action.

about the compound thing there is an escrow for that.

now, i will not say how much to spend but if u try pick 3/4

u stand a better chance of getting some returns from

the amount u spend.

if u not winning i suggest u think it over.

Joshua, I've posted a table to display what a small invest can pay over several years, using compound interest. There are additional ways to profit even more, by investing increments of say 2,000 dollars yearly; over the course of 12 years.

Don't take it personal, we don't get a lot of real doctors around here.

A good education isn't always a help when it comes to lottery unless you use it to work out the odds of the various things you are doing trying to win, besides simply buying more tickets.

Knowing too much can kinda take the fun out of playing.

Knowing too little can make winning even tougher.

Kill some of that spare time on my website, maybe it will help.

I simply asked some questions. You don't even need to look in another thread to find other new posters popping up and pegging any reasonable BS meter. Some of the claims we get are true, and some aren't. If you can't reread your own post and understand why somebody might be skeptical a debt of 160k is way too steep.

I completely understand the odds of playing mut-state lotteries. Odds of getting hit by a lightning is 1:700,000. The Powerball? 1:195,000,000.

Not sure I agree 100%. Depends on how much you want to win. The odds for winning the $1 million in PB are considerably lower than winning a Lotto jackpot. However, you have to spend $2 to win it. I spend more on Lotto than PB, but that's only because I've been playing it for 15 years longer. I only buy QPs for PB so I don't get hooked on playing every game. I mean, if my numbers don't come up, it's no big deal. That happened to me once with Fantasy5 and it really hurts.

If you need to ask if you're spending too much, you probably are. If you insist on spending that much per drawing on the lottery, switch your spendings around. Spend $10 on Powerball and $40-$50 on Lotto.

I hope you mean lower tier prizes. If it was easy to win the JP, some brilliant mathemetician would have figured it out already, and he would be under investigation because of multiple wins.

We already had a guy in here who claimed the same with p-3 only to be shown he was full of it.

Just my opinion that with odds of over 195,000,000 to 1 for PB, I would be wasting my money. I Just play a buck QP and hope I overcome the astronomical odds.

When Florida finally got PB a few months ago, the local newspaper had an article that quoted a scientist who compared winning a JP with PB has the same odds of getting hit by a meteorite.

RJ is right. So far this year I spent $159 on MM and won $8, a 5% return. On Tx Lotto I spent $118 and won $6, a 5% return. See a pattern here? And this is pretty much the case every year. With Tx 2 Step I spent

$207 and won $56, 27% return, but much lower odds and much lower jackpots. Generally, each year with P3 and P4 and Cash 5 included with the jackpot games I'll get about a 15% return on what I spent.

Not to say you can't win with Quick Picks, but to do so you have to buy them with a six pack of beer and wearing an irregular polyester shirt while driving a Ford Pinto.

Otherwise, if you don't have a plan to win, you are throwing your money away. Can't say you will win, just saying you can get closer to winning.

If you're spending that amount of money per week then, in my opinion, you should have won more than $500 in a year - but not necessarily the jackpot. Hitting a lottery with a large number of tickets seems to work on paper but come reallity its never worked for me.

I would say cut back on the lottery tickets and invest your money where you're almost certain of a return.
