You don't have to get a lawyer but ...

if your car bumps the back of another car at two m.p.h. and you're driving a clunker , the driver of the other car will give you a dirty look, and perhaps a one-finger wave, but they won't bother to report it. -- Same mishap , but you're driving a millionaire's car -- they will grab the back of their neck, fall out the drivers' side door and begin screaming and writhing on the ground, calling for a medic. An Accountant does the Tax portion. The Lawyer guides you on your rights and what you can protect and establish.The Lawyer cannot advise on how to invest or what tax shelters to invest in. That is a whole other job profession entirely.

Good question! I think a estate planner and tax law lawyer would be ideal. Perhaps a hybrid accountant as well.

When one wins a jackpot.....there are different mazes to make sure you follow appropriate tax laws and pay the right amount. Dependinh on how you plan to spend a good lawyer may be able to maximize deductions and credits to low your tax burden. Every little bit helps.

I'm guessing you mean if you win a jackpot.

Probably a lawyer who specializes in estate planning and taxes.

Because when someone comes into that kind of money they will encounter all kinds of things they never even thought of, such as Kidnap and Ransom insurance, for oone thing.
