Does California allow you to claim anonymously? And how does that work exactly? Unless you do the trust thing the people at the office will know who you are. If I were to ever win a jackpot I'll stay as anonymous as long as possible.

I would love to remain anonymous, but the only legal person I trust is actually a family member...So, there-in lies my dilema.

I know for a fact that I would NEVER NEVER NEVER tell my parents. I think all of a sudden, my husband would just have a really good promotion where we would have to move away.

i would probably rent a permanent suite at a casino,as my relatives are against gambling,and wouldn't come to a casino,unless i put them up free,like howard hughes.

IF you are in one of the states that allows you to do that.

And yeah, sure, 'only immediate family will know', that will last, about 2 hours. Maybe.

And as far as 'not know how much I won', sorry, but all you have to do is know X player won the lottery, and then all you have to do is know how much the pot was to figure out how much someone won, I mean, it's either the lump sum total or the annuity. Not too hard to deduce.

You don't 'advertise' it, but trust me: the media will find you and knock on your door, or stake you out at the end of your driveway hoping to get a quick interview. This I know for fact. But if you have a simple news conference and get it over with, they are much less inclined to intrude upon you later.

2) You doubt anybody is spending time digging for this info? Are you kidding me? Are you a newbie? Do you really want to know how many strangers, let alone distant relatives come out of the woodwork 'just to say hi' ??? (All they REALLY want is a piece of the pie).

I do not want to advertise I won big money. I watch my back when I cash a measly 50 cent winning pick 3 win.

There has been an awful lot of robberies and shootings in my area. I would hate to have to hurt someone protecting myself. The mugger might sue me.

In Canada unfortunately the lottery corporation wants people that win a jackpot to go on television and in the newspaper, so the corporation can get publicity.. I don't agree with it, I wouldn't want everybody knowing that I won, because then they are ignorant and ask you for money;

I would go away as soon as I was able to anyway..

Down here in Florida, we're not allowed to remain anonymous. The Florida law mandates that the lottery provides the winner(s) name(s), city/cities of residence, and the game won. I wonder if a trust can claim the ticket...but why am I even bothering to count my eggs before they've hatched

I've heard of this, but I have to admit I don't like the idea of giving an attorney that much power. An attorney with the authority to administer a multi-million dollar Trust has no reason to stick around.

I've never heard a lottery official say you should go public and get it over with. And with the number of new millionaires every week I doubt anybody's spending a lot of time digging for that info.

A woman here in Ky got her money business taken care of then went to lottery hdq and let everyone see her..She said I'll see you when I get back..I don't know if she ever came back..Haven't heard anything about her..Good for her..

I don't think so. Lottery winners, even big lottery winners, are fairly common now, and they just don't make news like they used to...if they don't want to do so.

I'd keep my mouth shut.

There seems to be no good reason to announce anything at all.

I'd rather avoid the spotlight. If I had to go on tv, I would probably wear sun glasses and a baseball cap, to make it harder to tell who I am. I don't want to make it easier for people to spot me on the street or anything.

All you have to do is form a Trust administered by an attorney. Have the trust registered to your attorney, and have him assign the beneficial interest over to you. So if anyone does research, they will see the trust registered to that attorney, but not be aware who realy owns it.

As the lottery folks will tell you, it's best to go in front of the cameras and get it over with, they WILL find you out.

The only way they might not is if you live in one of the three states that allow you to collect anonymously.

I read a lot of histories about people who won the jackpot and small prizes and their life become a nightmare. some lost their best friends and others lost the money, the family and the friends too. money is good, but only when you use it wisely. I'm not gonna say what I'll do in case I win because I don't want to influence your vote. ( you know already, I become james bondlotto )
