Last night when I was leaving church there were a lot (maybe 30 or so) kids that had a sign saying Thank you Veterans . They were all saluting! It brought tears to my eyes then as it does now. I stopped walking and gave them a sharp return salute. That was very special to me.

I also wanted to say THANK YOU to all the Veterans who have protected this country and our way of life. You have my highest respect for your willingness to sacrifice everything you have for a country that often acts like it doesn't care.

Same here

I researched his company on the internet ( after he had passed ) Kinda felt guilty about doing it.....but I had always wondered about it all

He would not have even wanted me to mention what I did in the above post.....its just the way he was

He kept his metals all hidden way back in a drawer in the back bedroom.....I would sneak in there now and then and look at them when I was growing up

Very touching story Astekblue.

My father was the same way. Didn't find out til after he was gone about all the action he saw in WWII as an aerial gunner on a B-25 Bomber over Europe.

Never would talk about his war experience..........quite man.......kept it all inside

Maybe some things are better left on the Battlefield

Wounded In Action...........In Germany Prison for 15 and 1-2 Months.......Starved half to death........feet froze......in a mine field twice.........the whole damm 9 yards

Special thanks to my Dad who flew the Hump with the Army Air Corps during WWII, my brother - helicopter pilot in Vietnam, and my son - currently a Chief in the Reactor Maintenance Department on an aircraft carrier.

I have a brother who was in the 82nd at Ft, Bragg in the late 60's also.

He always tried to get everyone to go jumping. He loved it.

Had quite a few friends that were shifted also. Had the time of my life at Ft.Bragg.

One of the better schools for demo was in vilsek. Glad to know a fellow chute from the 82nd.

Airborne! and De Oppresso Liber! 82nd and 101st here, 1966-1977. RVN 1967-'68.

Before the big levy in late 1967 that sent everone with wings to the 101st, we worked with SF at Ft. Bragg on Cherokee Trails, and learned a lot!!!

Went to demo. school in Vilsek, Germany. P for Plenty!

I use to go to the dog track and horses all the time in Fla with a co-worker and good friend who served in Korea..He's dead now but he was the unluckiest man alive and with a temper when he lost,all the time,but when the band played the National Anthem at the tracks he would stand at attention just like he did while serving..Guess it was in his blood..Great guy but a loser and with a temper..Not a good mix if you was his friend and with him all the time..RIP..

I am a proud veteran and appreciate your kind words. I met a gentleman, monday in Publix. who served on board the ship which MacArthur signed peace treaty. Introduced myself, shook hands and thanked him for his service. If you are lucky enough to meet one, feel honored.
