I know the odds are better for anyone who purchases more tickets but just remember it only takes one lucky number to win....so one of your 4 tickets may be one of the lucky ones!

I think this is so exciting! I hope they do like they did last year on the OL website and just let you punch in your numbers and it automatically tells you whether you won anything or not, it certainly beats searching through all the numbers.

When I bought some other tickets tonight about 6:30 p.m.

The Flash sign above the lottery machine flashed 62% of the Raffle tickets were sold .

So that's about 310,000 at that time. But many people buy last minute.

So, I'm guessing they will sell about 400,000 plus as well.

Well I am driving down there tomorrow to pick up 5 tixs. Figure they will sell about 400,000 tickets and with 3334 possible winners then the overal odd of winning anything should be 1 out of 120 so I would have a somewhat decent chance to at least break even. Although I am starting to like the idea of collecting the $500 in beef jerky and scratchers (there are some good $20 ones too). Find a McDonald somewhere and scratch my tixs while munching on some jerky and sweet tea. Hmm yummy

Rowen, as far as cashing tickets worth $500 or less, your best bet is to go to a grocery like Krogers who sells tickets. I have cashed $500 tickets there before with no problem at all. Its the little carryouts that might not have enough money. Over $500 and up to $5000 you just go to any retailer who sells the tickets, get a form filled out by them, take it to one of the banks that participate and they will cash it for you. i have done that quite a few times. I completely understand what you're saying because when I first viewed the prize tiers this year, I was kind of taken back a bit. There are 4 One Million Dollar prizes, which of course is more than well worth winning but then I thought, ok, the $10,000 prizes are worth winning and like someone posted earlier (not life changing) but worth the effort but the other prizes are hardly worth even trying, even the $1,500 prizes (after taxes). The bad thing for me if I win smaller prizes is to drive all the way back just to claim a hundred dollar and what are the odds that someone will actually have some cash to pay me $500. I never won that much so don't know how to collect. May have to take my winnings in beef jerky and scratchers...LOL

Rowen, I just spoke with Tim at the Ohio Lottery office at 5:02pm and he said as of yesterday they have sold 285,710 tickets and he said that ticket sales will end on January 2, 2010 at Noon and results will be posted at 9:00pm on January 2nd on the website. Good luck if you're buying any

Wow! They only have 3 full days (including today) to sell the tickets. I remember they didn't sell out the year before last but I don't believe it was this bad! I'm going to try to remember to call the lottery on December 31st and see how many they've sold so far, it will be interesting to see.

Just wow and they won't be extending the draw date either. This may be too good to pass up. Same thing happen in Missouri last year too when they undersold and now they have stop holding raffle anymore. Wonder how far it is to the ohio border from IL...

Just one week and two days before the drawing! I just called the Ohio Lottery and they said as of last night that 219,972 have been sold, so there is still 280,028 available. It will be interesting to see if they sell out.

Also, I started saving $20 again as of this payday for next year and as long as I continue to save $20 per payday (which I plan on doing) then I'll have $520.00 saved for next years raffle and I can purchase 26 tickets by this time next year.

They will have the drawing regardless if all the tickets are sold or not and the prize values will remain the same.

I do believe that not all the tickets were sold the last raffle drawing though in Ohio?

However, less tickets into the pot will increase the odds slightly. But still a good try for a jackpot with the odds.

I am in the same boat and planning on getting 14 tickets for the MI New Year raffle too and odds are way better here. They do post the ticket counts online in MI but not looking like sellout at all. They do reserved the option of extending it though...

Ok All! I purchased my New Year's Raffle tickets tonight! I bought 13 of them! $260 DOLLARS!!! Ouch! I tried buying a block of numbers but the clerk, who I know, could only puchase ONE at a time so some of my numbers have 1 up to 3 other numbers in between them but she went as fast as she could but with others buying them all over the State, you can only do what you can do. Anyway, some of them are right in a row, so that's good!

Just an FYI, I contacted the Ohio Lottery today since they're currently not showing on the website how many tickets have been sold so far and they usually do show that but as of yesterday 12/1/09 they have only sold 49,991 tickets out of the 500,000 available.

I've got my $260 ready to roll now but I'm going to wait until the ticket sales get somewhere in the middle around the 200,000 tickets sold range and then buy 13 tickets in a row. I hope this strategy works

Everyone at my work and in my personal life knows I play Ohio Classic Lotto and usually every year I tell people I'm playing the raffle but this year I'm not saying a word because I think they would think I was insane for spending $260 on the lottery.....ok, maybe it is insane

You tried spreading our your purchases and didn't do any better? Odd because I would tend to think that given the nature of random drawings, out of 500,000 tickets, you would have a better chance of winning if you had tickets spaced out such as 011034, 038205, 146053, 356823, (and so on) rather than having tickets 014500 - 014510 together. I tried spacing them out the past 3 years they've had the raffle but never won anything so I figured this year I'll change it up and just play it all at once and see if I can get 13 numbers in a row and see how that works! Hopefully I'll win something but you're right, the lower tier prizes don't really amount to much. I figure if I can even win $500 then I'll at least cover my expense and be up $240. We'll see

The top prizes seem right but lower tier consolidation don't really knock you out. 100,000 second place would be much better and more of a life changer than 10,000.

I would buy my ticket space out every 100,000 series. Past winning tickets have been varied

Thanks rdgrnr! I was wondering if anyone would think it was a good idea. I think this is the 4th raffle for Ohio. It use to be called Raffle to Riches but this year and last year they changed it to New Years Raffle . I thought it may be a good switch to buy a block of tickets instead of buying one here and there because I've played ever since they started the game and have had no luck but I hope that will change.

Ohio New Years Raffle game will start November 20th! Anyone else plan on playing this game?

I have been saving $20 per payday since July and as of this Friday I will have $200 saved for it. Earlier this year they had a survey on the Ohio Lottery website asking for feedback on what the price of tickets should be, prize tiers, etc. so it will be interesting to see if they are still going to be $20 per ticket.

In previous years, I use to just take $20 out of my paycheck and purchase a ticket
