Wow, I truly can't rember HOW, but I know when. I started playing lotto around September of 2007. I remember walking into a store and with a dollars worth of change bought a single scratcher and won $15. But I don't regularly play scratchers like I do lotto. Ive never really liked gambling even though thats what lottery is. In fact when we got o Vegas for vacation every year I actually don't gamble. I love walking around and looking at the hotel/casinoes and the shopping of course. They use to take my younger sister and I to Pimlico Race track where they would bet and we ran around collecting losing tickets off of the ground, hoping, one of those drunk gamblers dropped a winning ticket.

I don't remember what year I first started playing lotteries but it was the Irish sweepstakes, (based on Irish horse races), which were illegal here but we played them anyway. There was also a Spanish lottery called the fat one (El Gordo) because the prizes were so big. Some of the Powerball and MegaMillion Jackpots now make it look puny. When New York got its first lottery the Irish sweepstakes died and the rest is history, I've been playing ever since.

When I was younger, my mom used to love gambling at the casinos and playing scratch off tickets. (She doesn't go to casinos that often anymore or play scratch offs much.) But, every now and then, she would buy me a couple of tickets to play. This was before, I was old enought to buy tickets on my own. I guess that is how my joy, of playing the lottery got started.

When Kentucky instituted their lottory in 1992 I drove up there and purchased a few tickets. The drive was pleasant; losing wasn't. Oh, yes, I had the dreams, just like everyone else. While I do not play much ( $10 year to date) I will throw a dollar at Tennessee's P5 game every now and then. But the dreams are gone; reality set in a long time ago. What I find exciting about the lottory today centers around recording the winning numbers, looking for patterns, tracking those patterns, programming... [ More ]

My father is a lotto freak, and when I was a kid he'd spend hours daydreaming out loud about what he'd do if he won. He probably dedicated a little too much time and energy to daydreaming, and put living on hold waiting for the payday that has yet to come. I've had the bug for almost 20 years, but I'm trying to not let it get out of control. I can tell you it ends with me, though. I won't be passing this on to my kid.
