I have the official drawings of both games going back to their first drawings under different names. Since their matrices have changed over the years, comparing their earliest drawings to todays drawings doesn't reveal much useful data.

I'm sure a lot of people base their decision on which game to play on which jackpot is higher. Since Mega Millions is higher at the moment, and being that the odds are slightly better, it's safe to assume more people would be playing Mega Millions at the moment.

they will never merge, i seen the news stories

they did not EVER talk about a merge,

you guys have been making false assumptions

what they talked about is 3RD game,

while leaveing mega millions/pb alone

they did talk about a 2 to 5 buck price range

they said letting mm and pb cross sell was the first STEP of all the lotterys working as 1 team,

if mm and pb cross selling works out will, what they are atm

I agree with JADELottery, too, but just hope that when they do merge it doesn't turn into something like a 5/75 + 1/55 game with a $2 ticket price and a $5 mergeaplier price.

Itseems that Powerball grows faster and I like the fact that you can payan extra buck and get a bigger payout for all but the Jackpot plays.

I voted for Powerball. We have MegaMillion here in NY. It seems that Powerball grows faster and I like the fact that you can pay an extra buck and get a bigger payout for all but the Jackpot plays. We will be getting Powerball in NY in February, so the Lottery Comission says.

Yeah, I also think powerplay is a bonus for Powerball. But, it looks like that Mega Millions will start offering the megaplier in many of the new states that are joining the game. I know Idaho has said that the megaplier will be offered for the game when it starts, which I am glad they are doing.

Actually, that is no longer true. The Powers that be changed how the second prize works a long time ago. No matter if the powerplay ball that is drawn is 2, 3, 4 or 5, if you get 5 white balls and you have powerplayed your ticket, you automatically get a million dollars.

The Match 5 prize with the PowerPlay option now has a guaranteed 5x multiplier, pushing the second prize to $1 MILLION.

MM is better. Jackpots grow faster. Odds are lower.

Only thing PB is better is that it starts higher and if you powerplay and get 5+0 you automatically win a million. You don't in MM.

Also, forgot that Tx is the only state with MM megaplier. I play that every time. But it pays $500K, $750K, or $1M depending on the megaplier number drawn. So PB would be a little better in that regard.

As a practical matter the odds are the same, so I'd say the better game is the one with the bigger jackpot. The real jackpot, of course, which means the cash value. If I had the choice of both in the same location and could only play one I might go for a somewhat smaller jackpot in MM.

also sense i have been playing PB, let me tell you our weak points

less money per buck goes to the jackpot then compared to MM jackpot

, in short, if both had the same tickets sales

for say same jackpot levels, MM would beat it in faster jackpots/biger is better

, seeing as must states will have both, this will make MM the fastest by far

also PB has this thing called a Cap the must stupid idea ever for JACKPOT game

Megamillions has a bigger cash fraction compared to the annuity (which is generally a fraudulent representation) and slightly better odds, not that it really matters.

Since I play according to expectation value, I am more likely to play megamillions. I live on a border and can choose either one, although my state will soon play both.

The REAL question should be, Which would you PLAY? to which I would respond, a TRUE Cash 5 game with a number field NO BIGGER than 30-39 numbers!

Yes, I KNOW it would not pay out MILLIONS, but I'd settle for 3-5 Cash 5 jackpots a year from $50k to $600k than suffer the loss of all those dollars (for decades) from only having a 1 in 173,000,000 chance winning what in actuality is TWO lotteries in ONE!
