From what I understand, and someone correct me if i'm wrong, the CDARS bank does basically the same thing you would do, it puts your CD money into multiple other banks. They just do the work for you and keep track of your funds, for a fee. I'm sure they give you a list of the banks your money is in and you have full access to it. The CDARS bank does not actually have your money, unless you invest in a CD with their bank as well.

That sounds like a good idea. I was once worried about the FDIC insurance only being $250,000 but with CDARS that won't be a problem.

What are the chances of the bank losing your millions of dollars though? I think that if you bank with the bigger banks you'll be okay.

At this point, what I'd do is get rid of all my debts, my house, my car, and since my wife's car has started to nickel and dime us, we'd buy her a new car. There are also some things we'd like to do to the house, like a new roof, privacy fence, and some other repairs.

The rest would go into banks, mutual funds, and hopefully have enough to travel and not have to work and pursue my hobbies. That's what I would do now.

I might spend a week of hedonistic fun...if I ain't broke after that...then stick to the plan of nice modest house under $200k, personal vehicle under $25k and a family vehicle under $30k...put some money back for special events things(wedding-honeymoon for example) then have the rest tied up in investments and banks.

I just want to live a nice quiet life really.

I have been hooked watching the HGTV channel and it got me thinking. If and when I win the jackpot, I would invest in some income properties. That's where a large portion of where the money would go to. I believe that is one of the safest inventments right now because you get a monthly income from your tenents and you make your money back.

I would not invest in the stock market thats for sure! would put it in several different banks

give some to my family. I would stay in my townhouse wouldn't go for a big fancy house

travel alittle, buy a couple bldgs, rent them out for social events. Would love to have one

for battered women and children or even for the homeless

Well, Dennydedriver, I have to agree with much of what you've said. I already have plans for when I win.... the house I want to buy (it's for sale right now, and off the beaten path), and plans to get it completely off of the grid.

Invest in gold, guns heirloom vegetable seeds, AND stockpile food. Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best , is what I always say.

If the financial crises has taught me anything it's that banks can go to the wall (think Northern Rock) and that it's not a safe bet to put all your eggs in one basket. Therefore, I would split the money up (depending on the amount) and put it into different banks. Just in case

If I won I would put it in multiple accounts. If I won big enough I would help pay my families houses (this would be with the first million), Then I would by myself a house. So i can get out of my parents house ( I am 18). Then in order to pay my bills I would have it direct deposit out of a single bank account. So like the elerctic directly out of it.
